L15 Latin and Greek Word Parts 1
SPELLING FOCUS: Many words are made up of Greek and Latin word parts. Scrib, script, and graph mean “write”. Voc and vok mean “call”. Loq means “speak”.
- scribble – A child can scribble with a crayon.
- describe – My poem will describe the sunset.
- manuscript – The writer completed her manuscript.
- graphic – The book has graphic details on war.
- paragraph – Each paragraph was well-written.
- photography – The photography class took pictures.
- geography – We studied the geography of Asia.
- revoke – The teacher may revoke our privileges.
- vocalize – Students can vocalize their opinions.
- eloquent – He gave an eloquent speech on ecology.
- subscribe – I will subscribe to the magazine.
- postscript – Mary added a postscript to the letter.
- inscription – She wrote an inscription in the book.
- biography – We read a biography of Roosevelt.
- vocation – His choice of a vocation was teaching.
- advocate – She is an advocate for education.
- invoke – The state will invoke federal aid.
- soliloquy – The actor must perform a soliloquy.
- loquacious – Many loquacious pupils spoke at once.
- colloquial – The author used colloquial phrases.
