Hello First Grade Families!
November 1, 2017 is a Holy Day of Obligation recognized by the Catholic Church as “All Saint’s Day,” a day to honor and recognize the Saints of our Church. In order to help our first grade students better understand this Holy Day of Obligation, our first grade class will be completing a “Saint Plate” project.
Students are to choose ONE Saint they would like to learn more about. With the help of a parent, students will research their Saint using books or the internet to answer the following questions:
- What is your Saint’s name?
- What is your Saint the patron Saint of?
- When is your Saint’s feast day?
- What are three interesting facts about your Saint?
Students will write their answers to these questions on the handout distributed in your student’s homework folders today. Students will then cut out the hand out and glue on the back of a LARGE paper plate.
Students will then draw a picture of their Saint in the stencil provided. They are to cut out this stencil and glue on the front of the paper plate.
This project is to be completed at home and will be due on Wednesday, October 18th.
Students will present their projects during the week of October 23rd. To present their projects, students will read off the pack of their plates. The final part of this project will take place on All Saint’s Day, Wednesday, November 1st. Students will come to school dressed up as the Saint they completed their report on.
Though I will be explaining this project to your students tomorrow in class, I wanted to give you this project ahead of time so you will have plenty of time to help your students complete it. In your student’s homework folders today you will find the instructions, the handout, and the stencil. I have also attached the instructions for the “Saint Plate” project in this blog post.
Please let me know if you have any questions! I am looking forward to seeing your student’s creativity as we explore different Saints through this project!
Warmly,
Ms. Lozano
