Dear 2nd Grade Parents and Guardians,
This week, there are several items sent home in your child’s Red HW folder. The following is a list:
Graded Math and Science Tests:
-You may have your child make corrections to their Tests to improve their grade. Each corrected error will get 1/2 point.
-Math Test corrections: I ask that you have your child practice similar problems to the one that he/she missed before having him/her correct their mistakes on the Test. When they are correcting their test mistakes, allow them to do it independently after they have practiced similar problems that you had created for them.
-Science Test corrections: they may read the designated pages next to the problem they have missed and try to answer the question again after discussing the question and concepts with you.
-If you plan to have your child’s test corrected for a regrade, please sign it and return it with your child in their red folder. I will be collecting these regraded tests up until next Friday, November 3rd.
Fluency Passage:
-Please remember to have your child put his/her name on the fluency passage at the top
-Remember to have him/her read the passage entirely every night before being timed by you or an older sibling for a minute each night. (I’ve attached the direction sheet in the email for your convenience)
-It’s not just about speed, but it’s about tone, expression, appropriate pauses, and comprehension. Please remind your child of these points as they practice reading to become more fluent.
-Reading this passage is in addition to reading for 15 minutes every night. My suggestion is to have your child read this passage as a warm-up before he/she reads his/her independent book.
-The comprehension page is due Friday, but may be completed any time during the week.
Saint Research Report Timeline:
-shows a timeline of what your child will be doing in class and what will be done as Homework to complete his/her report by Friday, 10/27.
-No need to photocopy books or print out pages from the internet as proof of your child’s research (I’ve created a note-taking page for them that has a space for “source information”) In this space, your child needs to record the the information of the book (title, author, pages) or online sources (web address).
-begin to think about how to bind your child’s Saint Report. I’m leaving it up to your discretion. Please don’t spend too much money on this.
-Thanks for all the support at home! They have been exposed to and have been practicing how to look through books, process the information, take notes in their own words, and record source information. Please help them complete their research report at home in increments according to the specified timeline. We will be editing and revising it this week so they can begin their “Golden” final draft to be turned in on Friday. Thanks so much!
God Bless!!
