Dear Incoming First Grade Families,
I hope you are doing well and enjoying the last week of summer vacation! I am looking forward to having each and every one of your students in my class this year.
As summer comes to a close, I wanted to send a few quick reminders regarding the Summer Project and 2018-2019 school supplies.
Summer Project
- All first grade students were encouraged to read for 20-30 minutes for at least six days a week this summer! Summer reading should have been tracked using stickers on the calendar provided in the packet (NOTE you and your student should have worked together to fill in the calendar dates). The summer reading log is worth 54 points.
- All incoming first grade students should have practiced their first 100 sight words. Please have your student turn in “Fry’s First 100 Words” sheet following the directions provided in the packet. This is worth 6 points.
- Students also should have been practicing their addition and subtraction skills with the math activities provided in the packet. These activities are worth 17 points total.
- The entire summer packet is expected to be turned in on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 22nd, in your child’s homework folder. Your child’s homework folder should be the GREEN POLY style folder.
School Supplies
- All school supplies should be labeled with your child’s first AND last name.
- The community supplies do not need to be labeled with your child’s name.
- The first grade classroom will have boxes outside of the classroom on Friday, August 17th, and Monday, August 20th, from 8am-3pm, for you to drop of community supplies and emergency kits only.
- Individual classroom supplies should be brought to school in your child’s backpack on the first day of school. Please note the specific directions for the pencil box, folders, and notebooks to ensure your child is prepared.
- We will have an example of each of the above mentioned supplies outside the first grade classroom on the drop off days for your reference.
The Summer Project and 2018-2019 school supplies list are posted on the first grade blog if you need an electronic copy. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and I am so excited to have your students in my class this year!
Enjoy your last week of summer!
Warmly,
Ms. Lozano
