Dear First Grade Families,
Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a wonderful Veteran’s Day Weekend. Thank you to all who have family in the military! Below are a few important announcements regarding homework and upcoming events for this week:
Math Homework & Test
- Math homework is found on page 67 & 68 of the Go Math! Standards Practice Book. (We are jumping around a lot for this chapter and supplementing other lessons with outside resources.)
- The chapter 3 test will be tomorrow 11/14 (there is a typo on the homework sheet. Here are some things your child can practice tonight in addition to their homework:
- Adding doubles within 20 (1+1, 2+2, 5+5)
- Adding using a ten frame and counters
- Adding 3 numbers together
- This is a difficult chapter, but the first graders have been doing an excellent job! I am confident they will do well on this test!
Reading Log
- For this week, the reading log will focus on students drawing a picture of their favorite part of the book they read. Please be sure your child neatly writes the title of the book they read.
- Please be sure your child turns in their reading log every day with their green homework folder.
Sight Word Journal
- For this week, students will only need to complete 3 activities in their sight word journals since we had Monday off.
- This week’s sight words are review words from all the words we have covered thus far.
- Sight word journals should be turned in on Friday (11/16).
- A test of these review words will take place on Friday (11/16).
K-2 Thanksgiving Feast
- We are continuing with our tradition of hosting a Thanksgiving feast for grades K-2. K-2 will share pizza, juice, and snacks on Wednesday, November 21, at 11:30am on the brown benches.
- In order to cover the cost of food and supplies, we are asking all first graders to bring in $3 by Thursday, November 15th. (PLEASE NOTE: Please enclose $3 in an envelop or bag and place in your child’s green homework folder. Mrs. Ray and I will be going through the money this way.)
- If your child will not be here on Wednesday, please let me know ahead of time and your child will not have to bring in $3.
- If there are any parents who would like to volunteer to help serve or decorate, have them contact Lorena Lakey via email.
- I am excited to have the first graders partake in this wonderful Friendsgiving Feast again!
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! Thank you for everything you do!
Warmly,
Ms. Lozano
