Dear First Grade Families,
In class we have been studying book reports, and now it is time for the first graders to do one at home! The rubric was sent home tonight behind your child’s homework assignment sheet. Please review the requirements for the report and let me know if you have any questions. Below are some detailed instructions:
Step 1 Reading: Students should read a FICTION book.
Step 2 Written Report: With help from a parent, students should complete the written portion of the book report with given lined paper (more lined paper is attached in this email). The written report should include the following:
- The title and author of the book
- The characters and setting in the book
- What the book is about (but don’t give away the ending!)
- How the student felt about the book (did they like it/not like it) and why
- At least 5 sentences
- Proper capitalization & punctuation
Step 3 Art Portion: With help from a parent, students are to create a snowman on a piece of 9in x 12in construction paper and include the following:
- The title, author, and student’s name on the snowman’s hat
- A face on the top circle of the snowman
- The characters and a small picture on the middle circle of the snowman
- The setting of the story and a small picture on the bottom circle of the snowman
Students can include any other decorations that they want! They are encouraged to be creative!
Step 4 Put it Together: With help from a parent, students should attach the written report to the back of the construction paper with a staple.
Step 5 Turn it In: Students should turn-in their snowman book report on Wednesday, January 23rd in their homework folders with the rubric.
Please see the attached photos to help guide you as you help your child complete this book report. Also, if you are in need of any supplies that you do not have at home, please let me know and we can work something out.
I hope you and your child have fun completing this “Snowman Book Report!”
Warmly,
Ms. Lozano
