Dear First Grade Parents,
We had a fun filled day today. We focused on subtraction, short vowels, asking and telling sentences and sequencing of a story. Attached is the homework assignment sheet for the week. Please also take a look at the reminders and announcements for the week:
Homework
Sight Word Test 10/04/19
-Students will be tested on their sight words this Friday, October 04, 2019.
-Students will be graded on if they can spell each of their sight words correctly. Remember, these are the words that first graders should be able to automatically recognize when reading independently!
Here is our sight words of the week.
- one
- words
- had
- but
- by
- not
Reading Log
-This week, the students are learning about the character traits in different stories.
-Because we are focusing on the character traits this week, students should read a fiction book each evening.
-Please remind your child to turn in their reading log every day for full credit!
– You can use Raz-Kids as a resource for the reading log.
ST MATH
Once again, I recommend students to login on ST Math M-Th for 15 mins each day at home. If you don’t have any access on ST Math, please let me know. We have a goal to reach by the end of each semester that will also be included on their grade on Math. An extra time at home will help them reach our goal.
Saint Plate Project
Later this week I will assign your child their Saint Plate project. Students will be required to research and present about a North American Saint, they may dress up as any saint of their choice, on November 1st.
Homework Procedures
I just want to address some concerns about our homework such as;
1. Students don’t lose points for NOT stapling. A stapler will be available outside every Friday.
Please staple your child’s homework in order together. This way we will prevent losing homework pages once we have them to be checked. Losing a page or no name will mean a deduction on their grade. WORK HABITS are part of the Citizenship Award
2. 1/2 point is deducted for the CHILD not writing their name on the homework page. (Work Habits)
3. PARENTS SHOULD ALWAYS INDICATE THEY REVIEWED and RECEIVED information by simply INITIALING their child’s paper(s).
Work Habits mean the students are doing their Personal Best by writing their name on papers, stapling homework to their homework page and dating their pages in the SIGHT WORD JOURNAL.
I am hoping that you will understand that we need just a little help of just stapling the homework in order together, and signing the homework and behavior chart. St Anthony of Padua School and the students’ parents are partners in education of our students. Parents’ signature shows that they are aware of their child’s work and their behavior as well. Just a simple initial will do. Staple in order together and sign.
Again, let me know if you have any questions or concerns! Have a blessed evening!
Warmly,
Ms. Martinez
