Dear First Grade Families,
Happy Sunday! Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Please take note of some reminders for this week.
Dogman The Musical Bus
The funds that we have gathered are not enough to cover for the bus that will be used for Dogman the Musical on May 07th. We had gathered $230 from our Ice Cream Social and $138 from Aloha Pizza. The yellow bus costs usd500 so we are $132 short to pay for the bus. The yellow bus is first come first serve that’s why we need to book it ASAP. Instead of having another fundraising and asking each family for money donations to get the supplies we need, it will take time and preparation to raise the money, I will be collecting $4 for each student tomorrow till Wednesday, 03/11. Please put your exact payment in an envelope with your child’s number on it.
School Supplies
Each first grader should bring this supplies. No need to put your child’s name. Please place their supplies in a ziplock bag.
3 EXPO dry erase marker (chisel tip)
A box of 24 count Crayola crayons
3 red pens (they use this for checking/correcting their own work)
If you can also help me remind your child not to break their crayons. I’ve been reminding some of them but an extra reminder will help! 🙂
Spelling Bee
I have sent out copies of words for our spelling bee for first grade. I will be testing them on Thursday, 03/12 and choose the final 2 representatives for our SAP Spelling Bee on WEDNESDAY, APRIL 8. We will practice words in our class but if they can practice at home that will also help them be familiar with the words. You can find electronic copies of the lists with definitions here: https://thespellingchamp.com/2019-2020-school-spelling-bee-study-list/
Lenten Cups
I would like to check on our first graders lenten cups. I’ve noticed that some students still have their cut out papers in their green folders. Lent is a special time in the Catholic Church year when we dedicate ourselves to serving Christ by our service to others. Your child brought home a Lenten Cup two weeks ago. To celebrate Lent, your child may select a good deed each day. I have enclosed a few blank crosses so that you and your child can write your own ideas. I will be including this Lenten cup project as a part of their religion and work habits grade. Deadline will be on April 3, 2020. Let me know if you have any questions.
Third Trimester Expectations
-Its a start of a new year, which means your children are just few months away from entering second grade! This is an exciting time, but it is also a time when our expectations grow to further our preparations for the next grade level. Here are some of the expectations that I am looking out for:
- First AND last name on ALL assignments.
- The date on ALL assignments (written as March 19, 2019 OR 3/19/19)
- A uppercase/capital letter at the beginning of EVERY sentence.
- Correct punctuations or end mark (period, exclamation point, or question mark) at the end of EVERY sentence. Our sight word test will include writing their own sentences using each word.
- All first graders should read for AT LEAST 20-30 minutes every day at home. (NOTE: This means that if the students read one book and it only takes them 10 minutes, they should read another book to complete their 20 minutes of reading!)
- All first graders should work on ST Math at home in addition to math homework (whether it is assigned or not). In the classroom we do at least 90 minutes a week, however students still need to be working on ST Math in order to complete first grade by the end of the year. Our goal for the third trimester will be 100%. Some students are almost done with first grade ST Math, which is amazing!
- All first graders should know all our prayers, Sign of the Cross, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be and Guardian Angel Prayer.
- All first graders should follow all classroom rules and school Tribes agreements without being reminded inside and outside the classroom.
- All first graders should turn-in their green homework folders every day and their homework on Fridays by themselves in order to help them be more responsible. The first graders are doing a great job with this so far, and I want them to continue to work on being more responsible each and every day!
I am encouraging your children to meet these expectations every day, and it would be helpful if you could all encourage your children to work with these expectations at home too! Please let me know if you have any questions.
