Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year at St. Anthony of Padua! We are so excited that school is underway and hope that your child has had a wonderful week! For those that do not know me, I am Mrs. Garcia, the Music and Theatre Arts Teacher at St. Anthony of Padua School.
*Please note that the following plans are fluid and may change due to the health situation.
Much of this year will look different due to Covid-19. Music class will be online via Zoom on at the following scheduled times:
K-2: Tuesday, 1-2pm
3-5: Wednesday, 11:15-12:15pm
6-8: Tuesday, 2-3pm
Families will be emailed the Zoom code in the week school begins. It will also be listed in Google Classroom for grades 3-8, they can always check for the link there as well. Please note that we do want to have music in classrooms as soon as it is safe to do so and will continue to monitor the situation. My hope is that sometime this year we will get to return to music in the classroom. If we do, I will start by going into the individual classes (instead of having students come to Rm. 5).
We highly encourage students to attend the Zoom session as that gives them an opportunity to interact together in a classroom setting (Note: Jr. High Zoom is required for students). If you cannot be on Zoom there will be an alternate assignment posted in the week that you can complete (for grades K-5). Assignments will be posted on SeeSaw (K-2) and Google Classroom (3-8) on Monday and must be completed by the following Monday if the student did not attend the Zoom meeting.
Students can receive their Participation grades for Music and PE by EITHER attending a Zoom session during the week, OR completing the assignment assigned. To receive credit, they only need to do one or the other, NOT BOTH (except for Jr. High since Zoom is required)!
Please see the class syllabus for more information on grading and procedures.
This year music will still prepare students to sing music at Mass as well as develop their music theory and history skills. We are also looking into a new unit about music careers for Jr. High.
Currently, there will be no choir this year for Mass. It looks like singing together inside will be one of the last things to return to Masses. My guess would be choir will not return at all this year, but like everything else, we will keep monitoring the situation and hope to return to choir when it is safe to do so. I am currently planning for our Christmas Show 2020 to be online.
We hope to have classroom musical shows and our mainstage musical, Frozen Jr. at the end of the school year. These events are also pending on how the year goes and what we are able to do. We will have some auditions to re-cast members who have either graduated or might no longer feel comfortable being in the musical.
Music and Theatre Arts will begin Tuesday, August 25, 2020. Below, you will find a link to a google form syllabus acknowledgement. Please review the syllabus with your student(s) and submit the form through the link. Families with multiple children, please submit the form once and make sure to list all students at St. Anthony of Padua. There is no supply list for music this year. However, students should have their personal ipad, a pencil, and something to take notes on for grades 3-8.
The lab fee associated with this class of $15 has been waived this year.
To review, please fill out the form here and submit by Friday, September 4, 2020.
(Please turn one in per family and list all students attending St. Anthony of Padua)
Please Note: Your student receives a grade to ensure they have their form turned in!
Lastly, please mark your calendars for the following show dates this year:
Christmas Show: Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 6pm (Online)
Class Spring Shows: Tuesday, June 1, 2021 (K, 2, 4, 6) at 8:15am, Wednesday, June 2nd, 2021 (1, 3, 5) at 8:15am (Pending we are able to perform live Theatre)
Frozen Jr.: Friday, June 4th, 2021 and Saturday, June 5th, 2021 at 7pm (Pending we are able to perform live Theatre)
Thank you very much for everything and I am looking forward to a great year!
God Bless you,
Mrs. Garcia
