Dear First Grade Families,
I hope you all are well! We had a WONDERFUL first day back! It is a pleasure having your children in my class! I have enjoyed getting to know each and every one of them. The students participated in our first day activities, we made first grade crowns, we read one of my favorite books, First Day Jitters, and we even drank special, “jitter juice,” (apple juice with sprinkles) each to help take away some of those first day of school jitters! I know we are going to have a great year!
Again parents, please read my emails carefully to avoid questions that are clearly stated in all my reminders.
Correct daily school supplies
We have checked each of the student’s daily school supplies. Some first graders have the wrong or missing notebooks and wrong supply box. We have sent home some wrong notebooks, please check your child’s backpack.
All students must have 2 Primary Composition notebook K-2 (WIDE RULED) and 1 Primary Journal notebook K-2 (PRIMARY RULED- with space to draw) Please see the samples on our supply list. Kindly also make sure to label each of the notebook and write their name on it.
All supply box must be the same size. No designs. If you see your child’s supply box in their backpacks, it means they got the wrong size or kind.
A lot of students also have incomplete supplies, missing pencils, crayons, colored pencils, markers, red pen, highlighters, erasers and some of our daily supplies.
Once again, please check our supply list for the correct daily supplies. Hopefully by next week, all students have complete and correct supplies.
Sight Word Journal
Sight Word journal will be part of their homework. Students must bring it to school everyday and all of their sight word journals were returned. Please make sure that your child has the correct notebook. Primary Composition notebook K-2 (WIDE RULED) We will start our homework procedures after our back to school night.
Ipads & Accounts
I didn’t get to set up their iPads today. I will try to set it up tomorrow or Friday. All devices must be charged and all apps must be downloaded already. Below are the list of apps that we will use in class.
Apps List (must be downloaded on the device)
- Zoom (just in case)
- Seesaw
- ST MATH (not an app, must be pinned on your child’s browser, play.stmath.com)
- Raz-kids (for classwork & homework)
- Freckle Renaissance
- Epic! (additional practice at home)
*Message/Facetime/calls/emails must be disables/turned off!
Snacks
We had some students without the snack today,. Kindly make sure that your child bring snacks and water everyday. Our class doesn’t have snack supplies for the students.
Pick up and drop off
Only Kinder and 1st grade parents CAN park in the small lot and use the crosswalks to walk to the classrooms and drop off their children. You may NOT park in the carline and pick up your child. Parking in the carline to pick up your child, will affect the 2-8 grade pick up and it will cause traffic as well. Starting tomorrow, front gate in 161st will be open for families with K-1 students.
Health screening questions
K-8 Health screening MUST be done at home every day by parents, before bringing their child to school.
Parents are to submit the screening daily to the school, and take their child’s temperature at home before coming to school. One form per family. The link and QR code will be provided by the school. A link for the Health Screening Questions is below: https://forms.gle/w1VvM2VcGupof74d7. Please do not bring sick children to school or they will be sent home immediately.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. E-mail is the best way to get in touch with me. I feel so blessed to be your child’s teacher this year! God Bless!
Warmly,
Ms. Martinez
