Dear Students, Parents/Guardians,
Thank you for making our WASC/WCEA Accreditation Visit an incredible success! I was so proud of our school last week and I am grateful to all of you for showing our Visiting Committee what a wonderful community we have here at St. Anthony of Padua! This community is simply the best.
This is our last week celebrating the month of the Holy Rosary, Respect Life Month, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. National Red Ribbon Week is from 10/23-10/31, and we encourage all our students to say “No” to anything that is not healthy for them. On Wed, 10/27, students can wear “red” for Red Ribbon Week.
Pacific Toxicology will be on campus today, 10/25, for the weekly on campus COVID-testing. Please sign up for testing online each Thursday, using the link sent to you, and type in 1890 for our school code. The technician will be on campus every Monday from 7:30-8:30am for COVID-testing when school is in session. This is optional, but we ask that those students and staff who are unvaccinated get tested more often, at least once or twice a week. You must sign up every Thursday, in advance. Pacific Toxicology testing is for students and staff or parent volunteers who work on campus. If we don’t get 40 people to sign up by Thursday of each week, this on campus service will be canceled. You can still get free testing at the local YMCA in Gardena or Torrance or you can visit your medical provider.
This week we have NO ALL SCHOOL Mass because we have 2 Masses next week for All Saints’ Day on Nov 1 (students will wear Saint costumes and process in from the back of the church before 8am Mass) and our Blue Mass on Friday, November 5, where we invite ALL families to attend, especially our first responders.
As for our Halloween celebration this week on Friday, 10/29, Students may come to school dressed in appropriate costumes. Please see Costume Guidelines that were sent out via Gradelink. Friday is a NOON Dismissal, and Daycare goes only until 3pm. Please note this. Our Halloween Trunk or Treat is ONLY for students on campus, staff, and parent volunteers helping to decorate and pass out goodies to our students (all parent volunteers must check in at the office and be fully cleared with ADLA fingerprinting and have current Virtus certification). Students must be able to sit and play games in their costumes and masks can only be worn during the parade. Please see Costume Guidelines. Students may wear their PE uniforms underneath if they want to change after the parade and they can also bring their own treat bags/pails. Thank you to all our parent volunteers who are decorating their cars for this event!
This week, students begin to wrap up their saint reports and saint projects before All Saints’ Day on November 1. We pray for all our loved ones who have passed away and remember them especially on Nov 2, All Souls’ Day. I will be off campus Monday to Thursday, 10/25-10/28. Mrs. Alicia Navia, our Vice Principal will be the person in charge.
Mrs. Grey, Principal

SCHOOL DONATIONS AND SERVICE HOURS
For families looking to pay off their service hour commitment, our school gives the option to buy Scrip/gift cards and donate them to the school. We buy a lot of materials and supplies from Home Depot for Beautification of our school, and Office Depot for much needed supplies, so if you buy Scrip valued at $10/hour and donate it to the school to offset costs, we will credit your service hour account. Parents who volunteer on Saturdays (every 2-3 weeks) can earn service hours cleaning our school with the Interior Maintenance PLC. Please join the group! Please see the email blast that was sent out re: the dates when the Interior Maintenance PLC will meet. Thanks in advance! The next 2 dates are Saturday, 11/6 and 12/4 from 12:30-3:30pm at the school.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Please post pictures of our school events on your social media pages (like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) and tag us at #sapschoolgardena!
MONTHLY EMERGENCY DRILLS
We continue to have emergency safety drills regularly, at least one per month virtually in class, so the students are prepared when we return back to school on campus. Please discuss procedures and your family’s plan with your children in the event of a fire, lockdown/intruder alert, or earthquake.
EARN ONE SERVICE HOUR FROM HOME!
Parents who review our school online on Yelp, Google, AND greatschools.org will earn up to one service hour after you send me your screenshots of all 3 sites as proof to: agrey@stanthonygardena.org.
