Tomorrow is President’s Day, No school!
Excessive TARDIES in 1st grade class
Parents, I have been noticing some students have excessive tardies. As a friendly reminder, school begins at 7:50am each morning, students must be in line at 7:50am. Students who arrive after 7:50am are considered tardy. Please allow enough time in the morning for your child to hang their backpack and turn in their folder.
Students may sit on the blue bench or wait on their spot in line. Students should not run around in the morning. There’s only 1 teacher in charge for morning duty and it’s difficult to watch all students if they are running around.
Please remember that daily attendance is part of your child’s work habits grades. This has been discussed since the beginning of the school year. If your child has more than 6 tardies for this trimester, its most likely, will affect their citizenship award. If this continues, it may be a factor for a re-registration hold for next school year. If you have any question with this, please feel free to email me.
Excessive ABSENCES in 1st grade class.
Every Friday is our assessment day. If your child is out on a Friday, they miss all the test. I will not be giving out make-up test unless I am provided with a doctor’s note.
Homework
Please make sure to follow the daily assignment on our homework weekly list that will be sent on Monday. Kindly sign the homework list and your child’s behavior chart daily
- Math- Please see homework weekly list
- Reading-1 Raz-kids book (listen, read, record & quiz)
- Word Study- (Tues. & Thurs.) Word Study decodable on Seesaw (listen, read, record & highlight words with long i (CVCe)
- 3 Sight words notebook activities- Week 1-18 (For this week, we will review all the sight words from Week 1-18. Your child will choose 6 random sight words from their list every day and will practice them. Kindly make sure your child will choose different words from the list and activities from the menu every day. They will only do 3 activities this week since we won’t have school tomorrow, Monday, Feb. 21.)
Raz-kids homework
I have noticed multiple Raz-kids submissions were not being done properly. Too loud background noise, students were not reading fluently (yelling, singing, reading too fast), movements being recorded, or just reading first pages of the book. Parents, please monitor or check your child’s homework recordings.
Math homework
Parents, I have noticed some students doing advance homework or pages. Our math homework is a supplemental activity or practice of what we discussed for the day. These students doing advance homework are getting wrong answers because they are not grasping the concepts of the math lesson. They are also disengaged in class discussion; they think they know because they already do it at home. As much as possible, I would like students to understand the math concept being taught in class and then do a supplemental activity through their homework pages.
Test day- Friday
Oral test- Sight words week 1-18. Students must be able to read all the words.
LUNCH
Parents, please inform your child every day if they are supposed pick up lunch from the gate or lunch from the cafeteria. We get busy throughout the day, and it’s difficult to keep track of all the students’ lunches as well.
Classroom Wishlist
The following supplies are things that the students and I would greatly appreciate, we use these supplies daily in our classroom.
- Baby wipes
- Painters blue tape
- 8×11 printer paper
DRESS UP day for this week

Please let me know if you have any questions/concerns.
God Bless,
Ms. Martinez
