Good morning First Grade Families,
Happy Sunday! I hope everyone is well! Here is all the information that you and your child will need for this week 8/29- 9/2. I ask everyone to please read all the information below to avoid questions that are clearly stated on this email, I added more information for this week.
I sincerely thank everyone for your generous donations to our first grade classroom! I have received amazon packages, materials, books, snacks, water and STEM toys! It is truly appreciated, thank you for all your support!
I. COVID TEST
Prior to the first day of school, Monday, August 29th, your child MUST submit a negative COVID test. Please take the test August 27th (PCR) OR August 28th (At Home Test Kit). You may complete this through a PCR Lab test or an at home test kit. When you have your result, please send it to me via email. So far, I’ve only received 2 COVID test.
II. FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL 8/29-9/2
NOON DISMISSAL, DAYCARE available from 12-6pm, please let office know
Students may arrive as early as 7:30am and will be marked tardy after 7:50am. When you arrive, students should wait on the blue benches in front of the classroom. Students should not play nor run around in the morning.
Please NO lingering around the classroom and congregating. Please note that parents will not be allowed in the classroom.
Know that for security purposes, ALL Gates will be closed at 8am daily, after the 7:50 tardy bell rings. We will secure the campus at that time.
Only Kinder and 1st grade parents may park in the small lot and use the crosswalks to walk to the classrooms and drop off their children. Same for pickup at noon on the first week of school. Please drive safely and follow the speed 5mph limit.
III. TEMPORARY ROSTER
I will be putting our temporary roster outside our classroom so students know where to put their backpacks. Please know that our roster is still NOT finalized. Students’ numbers may still change, please don’t label your child’s materials with their number. I will let all families know once we have the finalized roster. Hopefully, I can assign the numbers to the students in 2 weeks.
IV. DONUTS for parents
To welcome all families on our first day of school, we are offering donuts and coffees to all the parents. Please join us by the brown benches. Donuts are only for parents/guardians not for students!
V. FREE DRESS
Students may wear PROPER free dress this week. Free dress clothing must be neat and modest. Parents/guardians are responsible to ensure that students are dressed in a manner suitable for Catholic school students. Students should observe good habits of grooming and personal hygiene and appropriate attire at all times.
The following are NOT appropriate at any time:
- attire with inappropriate text or images
- Crop tops, tank tops,
- Flip-flops, open toed shoes or bare feet
- Overly torn/frayed, sagging pants
- Colored/Dyed Hair or Extreme hairstyles
- Nail Polish
- Long dangling earrings or large hoops

VI. Thursday, 9/1, STAR TESTING
Students will be STAR tested on Thursday, Sept 1st . Please make sure your child had enough sleep and healthy breakfast for this week. Students will be using their own Ipads/tablets and headphones. STAR test will assess what your child knows from the previous year, Kinder. The test results will also help me in my lesson planning.
VII. Friday, 9/2 First School Mass
Students may wear their formal mass uniform or Sunday’s best.
VIII. WHAT TO BRING ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
Please bring all/ complete school supplies on Monday Aug 29th, labeled with your child’s name:
- First Grade Summer Packet
- 1 backpack without wheels
- 1 ½ inch blue hard cover binder with rings (if you can find dividers for your child’s binder, that’ll be awesone, if not, I will provide for them)
- CLEAR plastic supply box* (about 8.5 x 5.5 x 2.5 inch, holds pencils, crayons, markers, etc. ) please see link below. NO color or DESIGNS
○ Inside the supply box* should be the following:
- 1 box of Crayola crayons (24 count) / 1 box of colored pencils (24 count)
- 1 box of Crayola markers (10 count)
- 2 fine point dry-erase markers
- 2 small glue sticks
- 1 pentel white eraser
- 3 red pens (for checking/ correcting papers)
- 2 yellow highlighters (for annotating)
- 2 Primary Composition notebook K-2 (WIDE RULED)
- 1 of these composition notebooks should be additionally labeled with, “Sight Word Journal” on the front cover
- 1 of these composition notebooks should be additionally labeled with, “Word Study Notebook”
- 1 Primary Journal notebook K-2 (PRIMARY RULED- with space to draw)
- This composition notebooks should be additionally labeled with, “Writing Journal”
- 9” x 12” Whiteboard (no larger than this size)
- Emergency Kit
Devices
(Needed in School & at home)
- Ipad/Tablet (must have cover/ protector) MUST HAVE!
- Headphones/ earphones
- Blue light glasses (optional)
Personal Care Supplies (Students must have the following in their backpack everyday)
- Pocket tissue (s)
- 2 Personal Mask(s)
Student Emergency Kit
Using a gallon sized Ziplock bag, please include the following items in your child’s emergency kit that will remain in the event of an earthquake or lockdown.
- 1 picture of the child’s family
- 1 letter from the parents telling the child he/she is loved
- 1reading/coloring book
- 2-3 of your child’s favorite snacks (granola bars, Rice Krispies, pretzels, etc.)
- 2-3-pint size water bottles or capri sun juice drinks your child likes
Please be sure that any items places are nonperishable. Write your child’s name of the outside. Return the emergency kit to me.

- ST MATH (not an app, must be pinned on your child’s browser)
- Raz-kids (for classwork & homework)
- Freckle by Renaissance
- Epic! (Additional practice at home)
*Social Media (Tiktok, Instagram, Facebook, Messages, Facetime, calls, emails MUST be disabled/turned off! Students are not allowed to play games when on campus. Please place it in a folder with password.
IX. PICK UP/ DROP OFF
For K-1 students pick up and drop off, please park in the small parking lot in Berendo gate and use the crosswalk and drop off ALL your children to their respective classroom/spots.
X. SUMMER PACKET
Our first grade summer packet consisted of a summer reading log, sight word list & Math practice worksheets. All of these activities should be stapled together into one packet. Kindly make sure it has your child’s name on it. This summer packet will be due on our first day of school Monday, Aug. 29th. Students must bring it with them and place it in the bin outside our classroom. The summer packet will be graded and will be part of their work habits grade.
XI. PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK
Parents, kindly make sure to read our school’s handbook. The pages of the Parent/Student Handbook are filled with important information regarding school policy and procedures. Parents and students should review the contents together. If you have any questions, please call the school office. We feel that open and clear communication between school and home is important to the success of our educational program.

XII. BOOK FEES
Book Fees are due by the 2nd week of school. Your child’s books will not be distributed till this fee is cleared. Please reach out to Mr. Carlos Aguilar.
