Good evening first grade families,
Please see additional reminders for this week, 9/6-9/9. Please READ all the information in this email to avoid questions that are clearly stated on this email.
COVID TESTING AND MASKING
Since we had 4 positive cases last week, the county is HIGHLY RECOMMENDING that all close contacts (ALL STUDENTS) should also test tomorrow, 9/7/2022. Kindly send your child’s results through email.
It is also highly recommended that all students wear mask until next week, 09/12/2022.
Snacks & lunch
Parents, I encourage you to send snacks for your child every day. Our firsties get hungry during the day and our class doesn’t have enough daily supply of snacks for all of them. I also ask that it be a healthy, non-sugary food that is nut-free. Avoid candies or any sweets. Because of individual dietary restrictions and COVID , I do not encourage them to share food with each other.
Also, please let your child know every day what to eat for snack and lunch from their lunch pails. We have an incident today wherein the students ate his lunch during snack so he didn’t have food for lunch. We can avoid this incident if students are aware of their own food. We will continue to monitor and remind the students as well.
PE class EVERY WEDNESDAY, 1:30pm dismissal every Wednesday
TOMORROW our students have P.E. for the first time this year! Please come fully dressed with PE uniform and comfortable running shoes and a Water Bottle. I would prefer students hydrate by drinking water over sugary drinks such as Gatorade, Powerade, Juice, etc.…
Please check the handbook for details about the uniform and correct tennis shoes.
If you send your children to school with shoe laces instead of Velcro, please ensure that your children are practicing how to tie their shoes at home. With a large class size, it is challenging for the aids and myself to tie everyone’s shoes, so this is a great skill for your child to learn as first graders
BEHAVIOR CHART
Please see additional information regarding your child’s blue homework folder (clip/behavior chart) that was sent home today. We have introduced the clip chart today! This is our positive behavior management system that will help the first graders make good choices throughout the week. The colors are as follows:
Pink– SUPER STUDENT!
Purple– Awesome Behavior
Blue– Good choices
Green– Ready to Learn
Yellow– Think about it
Orange– Teacher Choice
Red- Parent Contact
Every child starts off the day on, “Ready to Learn” (green). Students can clip up for making good choices. Students may clip down for making poor choices in the classroom.
Every day, students will come home with a behavior/homework chart (placed in their homework folder, inside the clear sheet protector). They will fill in the color they finished the day on in the classroom. Parents/guardians need to sign their child’s behavior chart every day to ensure you are informed on your child’s progress. This will then be entered into Gradelink every end of the week. **This will be explained in more depth at Back to School Night on Sept 21ST !!!**
Students should return their blue homework folder to school every day WITH their signed behavior chart . A bin will be placed outside the first grade classroom every morning for these folders. They should be placed in number order. This should be done as soon as they hang their backpacks.
Please help me encourage our first graders to be independent, they should be able to hang their own back packs & put the homework folders in the bin by themselves. This will be part of our first grade morning routine.
Return & Sign documents
There are important papers that parents must fill up and sign, please check your child’s homework folder. Please return it tomorrow, Wednesday Sept. 7th I am still missing documents from 5 families.
Keep at home documents
In the back pocket of your child’s folder, there’s a keep at home documents. Please keep those documents at home, students tend to get overwhelmed with all the papers in their folders. I included our daily schedule, scholastic info & some log in information.
iPad and school accounts
I have checked all of the students’ accounts and connect their devices to our school Wi-Fi. Some students STILL didn’t have their devices or no apps were downloaded, please make sure to bring your child’s iPad tomorrow READY and they must bring it to school every day. All devices must be 100% charged and all apps must be downloaded.
I have also noticed that some students have devices that are connected to their parents’ emails or other social media accounts. We even received an incoming call during class, this is not okay, it disturbs the class.
Kindly turn off/disable all notifications and/or MUST HAVE parental control/time limit in all social media / Online Accounts (YouTube, games, search engine, etc — if your child has any)
Personal games must also be in a folder that students can’t access while in school.
STAR testing
Our STAR testing will start be on Thursday, Sept. 8th Please make sure your child had enough sleep and healthy breakfast for this week. This test will assess what your child knows from kinder. STUDENTS NEED THEIR OWN IPADS AND HEADPHONES
Let me know if you have any questions!
God bless,
Ms. Martinez
