Dear 6th Grade Families,
We have begun our work on our research for high schools to prepare for the College Fair next month on October 26. The 6th graders have chosen their schools and are completing their Essay Maps in preparation for writing a 6-paragraph essay, as well as the creation of a tri-fold presentation board for their school. They are going through the process of note-taking and essay organization – valuable skills that they will master for their success in junior high and high school.
Please read all the information you will need for today and the upcoming week.
Catechetical Sunday 9/18
Friends and families of our SAP students are invited to join today’s Sunday Mass at 11AM. If your child wears his/her formal Mass uniform they will receive a free dress pass. Please be sure to have them check in with me for attendance. Hope to see you at Mass!
Absences, Tardies, and Make-up Work
Please make sure to email the entire Junior High Team and Mrs. Ray (sray1@stanthonygardena.org) before 7:30am when your child will be absent or if he/she will be leaving early for a doctor’s appointment. All schoolwork must be made up within the time frame of an absence (i.e., if absent one day, they have one day to complete missing work; if 2 days absent, they have 2 days to make up, etc.). If make-up work is not submitted within the expected time frame, the student will receive a Zero on the assignments. Families should know that if their child does not do daily work and assignments or continues to fail, they will not be able to make it to the next grade level and possibly will not be able to re-register for next year.
Note that excessive tardies affect your child’s Work Habits grade and will result in ineligibility for the Citizenship Award. This may also lead to a Registration Hold for next school year, as it affects the status of your child at St. Anthony.
The current ADLA policy states that if a child is absent for 3 days without an excuse they are truant. They must be on campus or we will need to make a report to the public sector for truancy.
Homework
All Homework assignments must be completed by the assigned due date. Starting this week, a late penalty will be given of -1 point for each day late (smaller 5- to 10-point assignments) or -5 points for each day late (larger assignments of 15 points or more). The students should be using their Planners to write their assignments down on a daily basis and bringing all necessary books and materials home to complete their work.
Uniform, Hair, and Nails
This week all teachers will begin giving out uniform infractions. Students must wear their complete school uniforms. Shirts must be tucked in while the students are in class and Mass (girls included). Belts must also be worn with pants and shorts (girls included).
For boys – hair must be neatly groomed and not cover the eyes or the ears. Please check the school handbook for details on uniform, hair, socks, shoes, jackets and accessories.
Back to School Night, Wed. Sept 21
9/21 is our Back to School Night in person in the Hall at 6:30pm. Junior High Teachers will host two identical 15-minutes sessions in the Hall after our General Parent Meeting. Please find a sitter for your children, no daycare is available.
This is the first of three mandatory parent meetings throughout the year. Non-participation will result in a $50 fine every time, per the tuition contract you each signed. Please try to find childcare so you can attend. Additionally, I will have a Sign-Up Genius for the upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences October 10th-14th .
Vicki Marsha Uniform will be on campus that day in Rm 6, and we will also be passing out chocolates for our Fall Candy Sale that week in Rm 5. Stay tuned for more details. Come early to sign in for credit and pick up your chocolates in Rm 5 (tentatively).
