Dear first grade families,
Here is all the information you and your child will need for the week of 10/24-10/28. I ask that you please read all the information I post or email along with all the attachments. I am being asked questions covered in detail by the email and posts I have put out.
If you miss out on any emails, you can check out my school blog; http://www.stanthonygardena.org/first-grade/
C3 IGNITE IPADS
We got approved to receive new iPads for the school from C3 Ignite! These are all school-owned and should be kept on campus at all times.
Our first grade class will be using these iPads in our classroom. First grade students don’t need to bring their personal iPad to school starting Monday, October 24th. They will only need to bring their headphones to school in a Ziploc bag with their name.
If your child is staying in daycare, they need to bring their personal iPad to do their homework.
Saint Plate project UPDATE: Project due on Nov 1st, Tuesday.
Students will present their saint plate in class wearing their saint costume.
Your child will show their saint plate project first and know the following information during the presentation:
- The name of the saint
- What is the saint patron of?
- When is the feast day?
- 3 interesting facts about the saint?
- How can you be more like your saint?
- What is the saint patron of?
First Grade Survey
I welcome feedback on how your year is going and how together we can make first grade a positive growth year. This may be too early to ask for an evaluation, but I would still like to hear your voice in case you did not have a chance to comment, ask, or suggest at our Back to School Night. This will be anonymous. Please respond by the end of this week. Please click the link below. https://forms.gle/AKzEJe61MwCr245u5.
Questions asked in the survey:
- How often do first graders use the playground and is there a schedule for when kids in grades K-3 use the playground since they can’t use the soccer field at breaks?
First Graders use the playground alternately with Kinder and 2nd grade. I attached the schedule below
Playground Schedule
Recess | Lunch | |
Monday | Kinder | 1st (15mins-G, 15min.- B) |
Tuesday | 1st (G) | Kinder |
Wednesday | 2nd | 2nd |
Thursday | Kinder | 1st (15mins-G, 15min.- B) |
Friday | 1st (B) | Kinder |
- Sometimes I feel the children may feel overwhelmed with so many tests.
Testing is a part of learning, and lets students show what they know and what they can do.The purpose of testing is to assess what students have learned after the completion of a lesson or unit. I believe our first graders are already getting used to testingwhich is a good thing. It prepares them for the next grade testing. Upper graders have the same testing procedures as us, the only difference is, they have to read the tests on their own and they have more spelling words. Right now, I read all the questions and choices to the students since not all students are not yet readers.
Halloween costumes
To ensure that all costumes follow our School’s Halloween costume guidelines, I would like to ask everyone what costume their child is planning to wear on October 31. Please be sure costumes meet all these guidelines. They must be appropriate and pre-approved, or a student may be sent home to change. Please let me know what your child is wearing by clicking this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1772Nm-hySZNh6V9BQhasXgWatP4woamTGix7umrchx0/edit?usp=sharing
- Costumes should be child-friendly. No inflatables, no gory or scary clowns, no devils, or scary costumes
- Costumes Should Not:
- Be obstructive, offensive, inappropriate for a Catholic school (skimpy or revealing), gory, evil, or violent
- Drag on the ground
- Contain sharp objects, pointed objects, or materials that may accidentally strike another person.
- Contain any weapons that resemble or could be mistaken for an actual weapon.
- Encourage cross-dressing. Boys dress up like boys, and girls dress up like girls.

Please use these as a reference. The reporting will be done in the classroom, not on Seesaw.
Dress-Up
On November 1, Students may come to school dressed up as ANY Saint.
Saint costumes do not need to be elaborate! Students will process in Mass with the school in their costumes. Costumes should go over your child’s school uniform, as we will be changing in the classroom after Mass. This will be part of their Religion participation grade.
Uniforms & Accessories
Please refer to our Parent-Student handbook for any uniform policies. Unfortunately, I still see some first graders not wearing the correct and complete uniform.
Three uniform infractions will equal detention, and this affects the Work Habits grade and Citizenship
