Dear Students, Parents/Guardians,
I hope you all had a great Veterans’ Day weekend with your families. We thank and honor all our brave men and women who have served our country so valiantly.
Last week we had Patrick Novecosky speak to our families about St. Pope John Paul II. It was a wonderful talk and we were blessed to hear his testimony. We have a few of his books left in the office for sale at $20 apiece if you are interested in purchasing a signed copy. You can find his book and other items here: payhip.com/novamedia. You can learn more about Patrick here: patricknovecosky.com
Our Cash Raffle Fundraiser begins now through December, and the winner will be announced at our Christmas program in the church on 12/15, so please look out for more information.
This Wednesday, 11/16, there will be NO DAYCARE due to our Active Shooter Safety Training for all faculty and staff on campus from 1:45-3:45pm, led by Gardena PD. Please pick up your children right after school this Wednesday.
Our first trimester is almost coming to an end and our Mass and Awards Ceremony will be in the church on 12/2. As a reminder, we ask that all who enter our church, the House of God, should be respectful at all times. Men should remove their hats, and there should be no gum chewing, eating of food or drinking in the church. During the awards ceremony, we ask that you hold your applause till the end of the calling out of names for each class.
As we prepare for our Christmas show on 12/15, we ask that all the same rules be followed. Families will be invited, but, (per Msgr. Sal’s request,) guests for this program in the church will be limited to ONLY students of the school, their siblings, parents, and grandparents.
Finally, as we enter the cold, rainy season, I want to remind all families that our uniform policy will be enforced and remain in effect. However, there may be exceptions to the rules, when the days are extremely cold and rainy. On those days, administration may allow raincoats and rainboots, and “extra” attire over or under the school uniforms to ensure our students stay warm and safe. We do encourage those items to be in the school uniform color scheme so it doesn’t look like students are in free dress. When in doubt, please email me directly for clarification on what is acceptable for uniforms. FYI, all our classrooms that have been renovated now have new heaters to keep our students warm indoors during the winter months. We do want to be sure that students are following the uniform policy, as stated in our handbook. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and compliance with all school rules and the dress code.

VOLUNTEERS AND COACHES
All Volunteers and sports coaches must be Fingerprinted through the ADLA and cleared, and have a current Virtus Training Certificate. Parents, when you bring in your Virtus Certificates to the office, please make sure you register your email for the monthly VIRTUS bulletins to keep current. Parents who are Virtus certified need to be reading the monthly VIRTUS bulletin and take the corresponding quiz at the end on the Training tab to stay “current”. AM and PM carline, daycare, and lunch yard duty volunteers (from 12-1 daily) are needed. Please sign up for the Interior Maintenance PLC for service hours that can be earned on certain Saturdays from 12:30-3:30pm. You can also donate Scrip at the front office for school expenses. You may buy out your hours for $15/hour for Scrip such as Home Depot, Office Depot, Target, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and Starbucks.
SOCIAL MEDIA AND DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP
Please monitor all your children’s use of video games, social media, and devices at home. We want to be sure your kids are safe online at all times. We are noticing some bad language and questionable behavior at the school due to the influence of inappropriate tv shows, video games, and movies our students are being exposed to outside of school. Parents, do not let your child have a phone or sleep with devices in their rooms. We ask that you supervise your child’s online activity and monitor them when not at school. Thanks for your cooperation in these matters.
MONTHLY EMERGENCY DRILLS
We continue to have emergency safety drills regularly, at least one per month. Please discuss procedures and your family’s plan with your children in the event of a fire, lockdown/intruder alert, or earthquake. NO DAYCARE on 11/16 due to a safety drill for all staff with Gardena PD.
EARN ONE SERVICE HOUR FROM HOME!
Parents who review our school online on Yelp, Google, AND greatschools.org will earn up to one service hour after you send me your screenshots of all 3 sites as proof: to agrey@stanthonygardena.org.
