Dear first-grade families,
I hope everything is well! Here is all the information you and your child will need for the week of 11/21-11/25. Please read all the information I post or email and the attachments. I am being asked questions covered in detail by the email and posts I have put out.
If you miss any emails, you can check out my school blog: http://www.stanthonygardena.org/first-grade/.
Homework & Tests
No homework and tests this week
Monday, 11/21- PE CLASS
PE is moved to Monday only for this week. Students must wear their complete PE uniform. But if your child is taking their pictures for the Make-up Day, they must wear their Formal Mass uniform. There were only two students who missed our Picture Day last September.
Monday- 11/21 – Picture makeup day
If your child did not have their “formal” school picture taken last September, please have them dressed in their FORMAL Mass uniform this Monday, November 21, 2022. These pictures are used for their class yearbook picture.
You can purchase a photo package. Please refer to the flier that the office sent.
Tuesday, 11/22 1st grade Friendsgiving party
Our 1st-grade class will have our Friendsgiving celebration on Tuesday in Our Lady’s Hall. We will walk our students to Our Lady’s Hall on the storefront in New Hampshire. It is less than 3 mins walk from our school. Me and all the parent volunteers/room parents, aides, and Mrs. Grey will help our students when crossing the street. Please don’t pay for lunch (Alvarado catering) on that day. Our students will be having Chick-fil-a.
If you still need to submit your child’s payment for the party, please do so by Monday, 11/21. Each student will pay $12 to cover food, decorations & games. Kindly put your exact payment in an envelope with your child’s name and put it in your child’s homework folder.
Please do not hand it to me in the morning, it gets busy, and I might misplace your child’s money envelope.
Wednesday, 11/23- NOON DISMISSAL
We have an All School Mass at 8 am. Students must wear their complete formal mass uniform. DISMISSAL IS AT NOON. Daycare will be offered till 3 pm that day.
THURSDAY 11/24 – FRIDAY 11/25 – THANKSGIVING BREAK
There is NO SCHOOL on Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The school will resume on Monday, 11/28.
ADOPT A FAMILY SERVICE PROJECT (Nov-December)
We are adopting a special family- The Perez Family. They have been experiencing financial difficulties since the pandemic. We want to give them a memorable Christmas. This will require some sacrifice, but we will do it for Jesus. Jesus said, “Whatever you did for one of these least of mine, you did it for me.”
Learn more about the family and the family member or household items we have been assigned as a class. Open the Perez Family Profile. If you have time, please watch the 5-minute Adopt-a-Family video that summarizes this program.
The 1st-grade class was assigned to gift household items such as pillows, towels, a first-aid kit, a toaster, silverware, plates, a broom and mop, and cleaning supplies. Bedding would be helpful too- size queen and full blankets and full-size sheets. Any school supplies are also greatly appreciated. You can click on the Sign-up Genius to sign-up to buy a gift for your particular family member. Once signed up, you can go Christmas shopping!
Students are encouraged to go shopping with their parents and help wrap the gift. Challenge your child to make a sacrifice, if necessary: “I will ask for fewer presents for myself so that I can get a gift for Jessenia.” Click on the Instructions for Purchasing Gifts doc to review the guidelines- wrap it, label it and bring it to class.
First Grade Survey
I welcome feedback on how your year is going and how we can make the first grade a positive growth year together. This may be too early to ask for an evaluation, but I would still like to hear your voice in case you need to comment, ask, or suggest at our Back to School Night. This will be anonymous. Please respond by the end of this week. Please click the link below. https://forms.gle/AKzEJe61MwCr245u5.
Meet the Masters’ Parent Volunteers (must be Virtus-trained and fingerprinted)
Parents, if you are into art and would like to teach an art activity to our first grade, please let me know. We need parent volunteers for our Meet the Masters’ activity. I want to give a special shoutout to Mrs. Jane Akowuah for volunteering to do our art class! If we could have 1-2 more parents to help Mrs. Jane, that would be amazing! The school will provide all materials.
All volunteers must be Virtus-trained and fingerprinted. It is a very quick process! Once done, please provide your certificate to the office.
First Grade Christmas Wishlist
All our first graders and I would greatly appreciate any donations from our wish list for this Christmas!
· Lego / stem toys
· 8.5 x 11 white printer paper
End of the 1st trimester & Citizenship Awards
I finalized 1st-trimester grades this week and will email all our awardees by this week. Please note that to receive a Citizenship award, a student must earn 0’s (Outstanding = 92-100%) on both work habits and behavior grades. Therefore, students’ daily behavior, participation, attendance, and work habits are IMPORTANT factors in receiving an award.
Please know that if your child doesn’t earn Citizenship this trimester, there’s still a chance to earn it in the next two trimesters.
Uniform
As we enter the cold, rainy season, I want to remind all families that our uniform policy will be
enforced and remain in effect. However, there may be exceptions to the rules when the days are extremely cold and rainy. On those days, the administration may allow raincoats and rainboots, and “extra” attire over or under the school uniforms to ensure our students stay warm and safe. We encourage those items to be in the school uniform color scheme, so it doesn’t look like students are in free dress. When in doubt, please email Mrs. Grey to clarify what uniforms are acceptable.
Jackets, sweatshirts, sweaters, scarves, hats, and gloves
Students may wear the following:
- Navy jacket or windbreaker with school logo from Vicki Marsha Uniform Co. (see uniform list above)
- Navy blue sweatshirt with school logo from Vicki Marsha Uniform Co.
- Navy blue school sweatshirt with SAP logo
- FAST grey sweatshirt (Student Learning Expectations: sweatshirt was a limited edition from VMU)
- The St Anthony Trojans Navy Blue Sweatshirt is for current athletes only (for sports teams to use on designated days)
- Current Student Government sweatshirts, if there is one for the current year
- Students who do not have official school jackets must either purchase official jackets or wear plain navy-blue jackets/windbreakers. It must match the uniform, or students may be sent to the office until parents bring their proper attire—no jackets with designs. Students may wear heavier jackets on winter days, but the color must match the uniform. If a uniform is in question, parents will be notified immediately.
- No prints. Logos, sequins/glitter on attire. Hair accessories from Vicki Marsha must match school colors- Black, White, Navy, or Gray. No hats or gloves are allowed unless approved by the administration for inclement weather.
We want to ensure that students follow the uniform policy, as stated in our handbook. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and compliance with all school rules and the dress code.
