Dear Fifth Grade Families,
I pray and hope you all had wonderful. blessed, and safe Thanksgiving celebration with your friends and families. Please read the information you need for the week of 11/28 – 12/02.
First Trimester ended last Wednesday, Nov. 23. All grades were finalized and concluded. Please note of the following information from our 5th Grade Syllabus.
ST Math and Accelerated Reader (AR) Expectations
ST Math and AR are part of your grade. If point goals or progress are not met, it will be a letter grade down of your final work habits grade.
Attendance
Please make every effort to have your child at school on time each day. They should be in line on the yard on/before 7:50AM every morning. Any time after 7:50AM will be marked tardy.
Excessive absences or tardies will be recorded and affect their work habit grade. If necessary, will be reported. Many lessons cannot be retaught entirely or made up sufficiently. We sincerely value attendance because it directly relates to progress and success. I/We want your child to succeed.
Please try to make any medical/dental appointments for after school and/or on non-school days.
NOTE: Excessive tardies and unexcused absences (3 each trimester) will be a letter grade down on their final work habit grade of that trimester. This means it will affect their CITIZENSHIP.

RELIGION ADVENT PROJECT
Advent Chain – this will be our journal reflection for the Advent season. Each day you will need to read a passage, write a short prayer/reflection at the back of your strip. Attached it to your first chain.
ADOPT A FAMILY SERVICE PROJECT (Nov-December)
We are adopting a special family- The Perez Family. They have been experiencing financial difficulties since the pandemic. We want to give them a memorable Christmas. This will require some sacrifice, but we will do it for Jesus. Jesus said, “Whatever you did for one of these least of mine, you did it for me.”
Learn more about the family and the family member or household items we have been assigned as a class. Open the Perez Family Profile. If you have time, please watch the 5-minute Adopt-a-Family video that summarizes this program.
The 5th-grade class was assigned to gift Jovany. He is 11 years old and is in the 6th grade. His favorite color is navy. Here are his sizes: shirt: large, pants: 16, shoe: 6. He can use underwear, socks, pjs and a backpack for school. Jovany is wishing for a remote control car, a soccer ball, a Chivas jersey and a bike. You can click on the Sign-up Genius to sign-up to buy a gift for your particular family member. Once signed up, you can go Christmas shopping!
Students are encouraged to go shopping with their parents and help wrap the gift. Challenge your child to make a sacrifice, if necessary: “I will ask for fewer presents for myself so that I can get a gift for Jessenia.” Click on the Instructions for Purchasing Gifts doc to review the guidelines- wrap it, label it and bring it to class.
Note from the School Bulletin
Our first trimester is almost coming to an end and our Mass and Awards Ceremony will be in the church on 12/2. As a reminder, we ask that all who enter our church, the House of God, should be respectful at all times. Men should remove their hats, and there should be no gum chewing, eating of food or drinking in the church. During the awards ceremony, we ask that you hold your applause till the end of the calling out of names for each class.
As we prepare for our Christmas show on 12/15, we ask that all the same rules be followed. Families will be invited, but, (per Msgr. Sal’s request,) guests for this program in the church will be limited to ONLY students of the school, their siblings, parents, and grandparents. IMPORTANT DATES
