Dear 6th Grade families,
Happy Gaudate Sunday! Thank you again to Mrs. Lakey, Mrs. Rubalcava, Mrs. Sapanza, Mrs. Gomez, and Mrs. Patel for all your help with our Advent Holiday Party last Friday! The food was delicious and the 6th graders had a great time playing games and exchanging books for their White Elephant. It was so much fun, and it made my heart smile to see how their faith and love for Jesus really came alive during our celebration. 🙂
Here are some important announcements for this week:
All School Mass on Monday, Dec. 12 not Friday (this week only)
This Monday, we will have our All School Mass at 8am, in honor of the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Students must wear their complete formal mass uniform on Monday not Friday.
Junior High NET Retreat on Monday, Dec. 12 (all day after Mass)
Mr. Richardson has been coordinating this year’s NET Retreat for our junior high students to be held in the Hall tomorrow after Mass. The students still need to being their snacks, water bottles, and lunches to school (if not ordering from Alvarado Catering).
Christmas Sweater Day, Wednesday, Dec. 14:
Students may wear a Christmas sweater on Wednesday with school bottoms or jeans (no ripped jeans allowed).
Christmas show reminders, Thursday, Dec. 15 (for further questions, please contact Ms. Jessica Garcia, music teacher) no homework day
You can find the entire parent letter and information on the music blog.
K-8th Grade (Excludes 5th): You will be wearing Poinsettia (Christmas) red! Boys should dress in nice dress shirt tops (Red) with black dress pants (NO JEANS), and black shoes and socks. Girls can either wear a red formal dress with leggings (socks or tights in tan, white, or black) and black dress shoes. Or they can wear a red blouse with a black skirt, white tights and black dress shoes. Hair should be nicely done. For the girls, make sure it looks nice and formal.
PLEASE NO SANTA HATS OR REINDEER EARS. WE WANT TO LOOK FESTIVE AND FORMAL!
THE CANDLELIGHT PROCESSIONAL, IS ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2022, AT 6:00PM IN THE CHURCH. STUDENTS NEED TO BE IN THEIR CLASSROOMS AT 5:30PM THAT EVENING. PLEASE HAVE THEM EAT DINNER BEFORE ARRIVAL. NO FOOD WILL BE SERVED THAT NIGHT. It is imperative that students show up on time and in costume! PLEASE BE PUNCTUAL AND ON TIME! Students will receive a grade for this performance, so encourage them to do their best.
We have some new rules and procedures in place to ensure that we keep in mind that we are in a church setting which is different from a performance venue. We are striving to honor God and respect that we are in the church.
- Attendance will be limited to immediate family parents or guardians, brothers, sisters, and grandparents of the students. Please stick to this rule. You are required to RSVP through this link by Tuesday, December 13th, 2022, at midnight.
- Doors will open at 5:30pm at the Church. Please have your entire group together. There will be a check in table at the side entrance closest to our classrooms. Please enter from that side.
- Once in the church, please stay in your seats as much as possible. This year, we are moving the students up to the front pews. We will NOT be allowing you to move around to take pictures. Please take pictures from your seat. Mrs. Avila or another volunteer may be taking official pictures and we are happy to share them with you. We also will be filming the performance and we will share the link to download the video once it has been edited.
- There should be no food, beverages, gum, or hats (boys and men) worn inside the church.
- You may clap politely after each class performs, but there should be no yelling or loud, obnoxious cheering or clapping. Please be mindful that we are in the House of God.
- During the performance, please remain in your seats and be mindful and respectful that a performance is going on. People want to hear the performers, singers, and speakers. If you are talking, it takes away from the performance.
- New this year, students will process out back to their homerooms at the end of the show. You can pick students up from their homerooms after Mrs. Grey has announced the raffle winners and we end the show. Dismissal should be by 8pm.
- Each student has a role at the very end of the show. Please DO NOT pick your student up early from where they are sitting. They can be picked up in their homeroom once the show has finished.
- This is a “required” performance, however, if your child is sick or showing symptoms of Covid-19 or the flu, we ask that they stay home. Please email Mrs. Jessica Garcia (jgarcia@stanthonygardena.org) and they will be excused from the performance.
There will be no food vendor at the show this year. Please make sure to have your students eat something before they arrive at 5:30pm. We will be done by 8pm so they may be hungry if they do not eat beforehand.
For the show, face masks are not required for the students, and I’d prefer for the students to NOT wear masks while they perform. If you would like them to wear a mask, please buy a black one for them to wear so they can look uniform with each other.
Secret Santa and Christmas Treats, 12/20 (noon dismissal)
The students wanted to do a Secret Santa gift exchange on our last day of school (Tuesday 12/20), so we are using Drawnames.com for this. It is optional to participate, so I only included those students who wanted to be part of the Secret Santa.
The gift limit is $15. The students have already drawn the name of another student to get a gift for. Please make sure that gifts are purchased early enough to arrive before next Tuesday.
They may also bring holiday treats to share with their classmates on 12/20. I only ask that they come pre-packaged in bags or containers so they are easy to take home. We will not be able to eat in the classroom, especially because we will already have our Advent Holiday party this Friday 12/9 in the Hall.
We also thank you for contributing to our Adopt-a-Family Project for the Perez family. We had a great response from the school!
