Dear Parents and Guardians,
As you know, there is NO SCHOOL today, January 16, due to the MLK, Jr. Holiday. Unfortunately, the rains caused the MLK Parade in Gardena to be canceled this weekend. Today, we installed brand new furniture (desks and chairs) into our K-5 Classrooms today. We are so grateful to the Shea Family Charities for their support and generosity to our school. We keep them and all our wonderful donors in our prayers. Our upcoming EFG fundraiser will help us offset costs for our school share of all these upgrades.
Last Friday, 1/13, we had our All School Mass at 8am. We offered our Mass for the repose of the soul of our Pope Benedict XVI. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.
We want to welcome 2 new Loyola HS seniors who are doing their service projects with us: Nolan Roberts and Andrew Bonelli! They will be on campus for the next few weeks, through the end of January. We are so thankful to have them at SAP School helping in our middle school in Math and English and on yard duty during the day. If you see them, please welcome them!
This week, on Wed, 1/18 is our soft launch for our Spring Fundraiser. On the tuition contract it is listed as EFG/JAT (Jog-a-Thon). EFG will take the place of our JAT this year, since we have gotten approval for it from Hundred X. On 1/23, we have our official kickoff of our EFG Fundraiser: Express Feedback for Good. Our goal is to earn $40,000 for our school in a few weeks from 1/23-2/17. Each brand survey you do online is worth $1.60. Please spread the word. Each adult (18 and over) is encouraged to become a “Superstar” by doing 75 brand opinions from the comfort of their phone. There are no products to sell and it costs nothing, only your time! Each survey takes about a minute. You and your family and friends will earn service hours for your participation. More info is on the email sent from PLC lead, Angelic Nunez-Scott. Those who DO NOT participate can pay out their $100 fundraising fee, listed on the tuition contract. We hope you will participate in this FUN-raiser for great prizes and incentives for your child and their class!
Catholic Schools’ Week is coming up and our Family Mass is at 11am in the Church on Sunday, January 29. Our Annual Open House will be at the school, in person, from 12-2pm this year, and as always, we appreciate you referring your friends and family to our school! Don’t forget we have some incentives for this. I will be conducting private tours, and can schedule meetings with prospective families as well. If someone you know would like to schedule a tour on campus, please contact me at agrey@stanthonygardena.org. Any family who would like to sign up to speak at one of our Masses to promote our school to prospective families, please let me or Amy Lucas Palanca know. You can earn service hours for this. From 12:45-1:45 we will have performances in the hall by our Folkorico team, our piano players, and our Music Ministry. Please come and support and spread the word! Our 8th grade class will be leading the bake sale that day after Mass. Students who wear their formal Mass uniforms can earn a Free Dress pass if they see their teacher that day. Open House kicks off Catholic Schools’ Week. Dress up days and activities will be emailed separately for that week.
Our 2nd STAR testing window will continue from now through February 7. We will have one more STAR testing window at the end of the year to measure student progress. Progress reports go home on February 8, which is the same day as our 2nd Mandatory General Parent Meeting. Please attend in person to avoid a $50 fine for non-participation.
Please turn in all Teaching Touching Safety (TTS) forms to your teachers if you haven’t done so before the break (we need all signed permission slips in so we can start teaching our lessons to all our students, that are due by February 1). We look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming Open House.
Parents, please return the SNOR form if applicable by 1/25, and also if your child in K-5 is interested in after school activities offered by Professor Egghead, please see the survey Mrs. Ray sent out.
Blessings,
Mrs. Grey and Mr. Lynch

SCHOOL DONATIONS AND SERVICE HOURS
For families looking to pay off their service hour commitment, our school gives the option to buy Scrip/gift cards and donate them to SAP. We buy a lot of materials and supplies from Office Depot, Walmart/Sam’s Club, Home Depot, and Target for much needed supplies, so if you buy Scrip valued at $15/hour and donate it to the school to offset costs, we will credit your service hour account. Parents who volunteer on Saturdays (every 2-3 weeks) can earn service hours cleaning our school with the Interior Maintenance PLC. Please join the group. Thanks in advance!
