Hello Third Grade Families!
I have loved getting to talk to you and learn about your children. I truly think, if we hope to see a change in this bent world, children are the key. It is beautiful to hear how much love you have for your children in the caring way you describe and see goodness within them. I am excited this year to journey with the kids and you, in helping them along their path to become saints. Just as St. John Bosco and Mary Mozzarello (two of my favorite saints!) believed in the education of the whole person, I live by the philosophy “education is a matter of the heart” (St. John Bosco). I look forward to getting to know and love your kids as you do.
On another note! Many of you have had really great questions, so let me clarify for everyone (because if one person has a question, it’s likely that others are wondering too!)
Google classroom
- I will give students their personal school email on the first week of school and we will use that as a class to log into Google classroom. If you want to be able to access Google classroom on your phone as well, you can download the app and log in with their gmail.
Bullet journals
- Students will be using bullet journals for morning journaling and mass journaling. Typically a bullet journal is a small notebook with dots rather than lines. At mass I want the students to reflect and feel a part of the liturgy. I know it can be a struggle to just sit and listen for an hour, so I like to give them an opportunity to express themselves artistically or take notes during the homily to better engage with the Word of the Lord.
- Here are a few examples of bullet journals from Amazon and Michaels.
King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table by Roger Lancelyn Green
- This year after researching and studying classical education, I am changing my supplemental resources and will be focusing on the middle ages for their social studies/history curriculum. Please purchase this novel by Monday September 4th.
- If anyone would need financial assistance in acquiring this book please let me know.
Headphones
- A number of you asked if it was alright for your child to use big headphones rather than earbuds. Yes, however, I ask that they only bring them to school on the days I tell you we are doing star testing, otherwise, they will take up valuable space in their desk. In general, we will not be needing headphones in class other than on days of STAR testing.
God bless you and your families! Can’t wait to see you in a week!!
Peace and joy,
Ms. Sardina
