Dear Kindergarten Families,
I hope everyone is well. We have been busy in Kindergarten learning routines, singing songs, sharing in community circle, completing scissors certification and working on getting glue bottle certified.
Here is all the information that you and your child will need for this week, 8/28-9/1. Please make sure to read all important information to avoid questions that are clearly stated on all emails/ reminders. I would greatly appreciate it!
Schedule
Starting this week, we will have our full-day schedule 7:50 AM -3:00 PM. Our Kindergarten block schedule can be found by clicking here. Students who arrive after the bell rings at 7:50 am will need to get a tardy slip from the office.
Homework folder
Every day, students will be bringing home their green homework folder. Kindly check both pockets of the folder. Reference materials are in the plastic sleeves in the green folders and should not be removed.
All students are expected to returntheir greenhomework folder to schoolevery day. A crate will be placed outside the Kindergarten classroom every morning for these folders. The folders should be placed innumber order.Remember, we do not check student backpacks.
Please help me encourage our Kindergarteners to be independent, they should be able to hang their own backpacks and put the homework folders in the crate by themselves. This will be part of our Kindergarten morning routine. Students should not stand on the benches.
STAR testing
On Tuesday, 8/29, we will start administering the 1st STAR test. This test will measure your child’s knowledge of early literacy concepts. Please make sure that your child has enough sleep and a healthy breakfast before coming to school. Students will be using our school iPad to do the test. Students will wear headphones to avoid distraction and be given the test in groups of four monitored by Ms. Gomez, the morning aide.
Lunch
Alvarado Catering will begin serving hot lunch. Cost per lunch per day is $7.00. You are encouraged to pay for your child’s lunch through Zelle OR Check made out to Alvarado Catering. *Same Day Purchases are available via ZELLE 323-477-9562, Check, or Cash. No IOU’s will be issued for lunches.
If you choose to bring “home lunch”, that is also an option. Menus were sent home via email from the office.
Packed Snack and Lunch
I kindly request your assistance in ensuring that your child can easily distinguish between their snack and lunch items.
To avoid any confusion during meal times, please consider labeling the packed food clearly as either “Snack” or “Lunch.” Or just letting your child know which food to eat for snack or lunch. This small effort will greatly help our students and staff in maintaining an organized and smooth snack and lunch routines.
Room Parents & Band app
We are fortunate to have a team of enthusiastic and caring Room Parents who have generously volunteered to assist in fostering a strong and supportive classroom environment. They will be working closely with me to ensure that our students have the best possible learning experience. Our Room Parents are Mrs. Brenda Pineda, Mrs. Yesika Chavez, Mrs. Cathy Le and Mrs. Gabriela Vasquez. They are excited to collaborate with each of you throughout the school year.
We all know that questions and situations can arise when I am not immediately available. Our Room Parents are here to bridge that gap and provide you with a helping hand. Whether you have a question about homework, need clarification on an upcoming event, or simply want to stay informed, our Room Parents will be more than happy to assist.
Feel free to reach out to our Room Parents through our Band app. They will make every effort to respond promptly and ensure that your concerns or inquiries are addressed. While they may not have access to all the information I possess, they are well-equipped to provide support, connect you with the right resources, and keep you informed about classroom activities.
We have a printed BAND QR code up on the wall outside our classroom.
I encourage everyone to join our band app so you can keep updated on everything. Our Room Parents are excited to work with each of you to make this school year exceptional. Please remember that you can also support our classroom by sharing your expertise, volunteering your time, and participating in our activities.
Mass
Kindergarten will not be attending our school mass until October 20th. We will continue to practice our mass procedures and etiquette for the following weeks. I still encourage students to wear their complete FORMAL MASS UNIFORM every Friday.
Uniform, hair, nails
Students must wear their complete school uniforms. Please check the school handbook for details on uniform, hair, socks, shoes, jackets and accessories. Last week, notes were sent home in your child’s green folders if there were any uniform infractions.
Every Wednesday, our Kindergarteners must wear their complete PE uniform. Please check the handbook for details about the uniform and correct tennis shoes.
Restroom Usage
Please have your child use the restroom before school. If you arrive between 7:30 – 7:45 am, please have them use the school’s restroom before the bell rings at 7:50 am.
We have reviewed bathroom procedures, how to use the hand signal and where to wait to use the restroom. Our Kindergarten aide escorts all students to the restroom. All students are asked to use the restroom during snack time (9:50 am – 10:15 am) and again before returning to the classroom after lunch. Lunch/recess is from 12:00 – 12:45 pm.
Please remind your child they should only be using the restroom if there is a need.
Pick up and drop off
All K-1 students must be dropped off and picked up in front of our classroom. You cannot park by the 163rd red pedestrian lane. We prioritize the safety of each student and family of our community.
Only Kinder and 1st-grade parents CAN park in the small lot and use the crosswalks to walk to the classrooms and drop off their children. You may not park in the carline and pick up your child. Parking in the carline to pick up your child, will affect the 2-8 grade pick-up and cause traffic. You may also use the front gate on 163rd.
Please parents avoid lingering or congregating along the breezeway or in front of our K-2 classrooms in the morning or during dismissal. It is difficult to manage students when it is crowded.
