Dear SAP School Families,
This morning, let’s pray together for the victims who lost their lives in the tragedy that struck our nation on 9/11/2001. We pray for the heroes who saved others, and all the families left behind.
Thank you to everyone who came out to our Mandatory Back to School Night last Thursday, 9/7! It was wonderful to see both old and new faces. Please pick up your candy boxes in the office, if you haven’t already. If you did not make it to the mandatory meeting, you will be charged a $50 fee for non-participation. If you opted out of this fundraising and paid out $120, you will not receive any chocolates, but if you would like to participate in the activities like Trojan Drawings or the Magic Show on 11/9, you may buy one or more additional boxes. Trojan Drawings will be held on 9/14 and 9/28 at 1pm. To qualify for prizes, you must have turned in your money the Friday before Trojan Drawings (9/8 and 9/22).
On Wednesday, 9/13, Lorena Lakey, our Room Parent PLC lead will host a Room Parent meeting on Zoom. You will be discussing the upcoming Trunk or Treat event and class mandatory bake sales. By signing up for a PLC, you can begin earning your 10 service hours for the first trimester. Each family must serve 30 hours a year or donate items the school needs at a value of $15/hr. There are many opportunities to serve. We will email you those opportunities, and PLC leads will be at the meeting to recruit members to their committees.
9/29 is our Blue Mass in the church at 8am on the Feast of St. Michael. It will be followed by a small reception/celebration for our first responders.
This week, 3rd grade will be going on a Field Trip to Ocean Institute on Thursday, 9/14. They will be leaving at 8am and arriving back at 3pm. Students need not be present to be picked for Trojan Drawings. If absent, they can choose a prize upon their return.
Fall Picture Day is on Thursday, 9/21. Full Mass uniform with white shirts/blouses, ties, vests, and cardigans are required for the yearbook photos. Please do not send your child in a PE sweater, Student Government sweater, or any other hoodies or jackets for these photos. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
Dress code expectations have been met these past few weeks. Keep up the great work! Thank you to all who have read the handbook for uniform guidelines. Our Uniform Policy is clearly stated in the handbook. Mr. Reyes is doing random uniform inspections on campus starting next week. Three (3) uniform infractions equal one detention. Please make sure your child is following all uniform guidelines starting next week.
Parents, as a reminder, please do NOT pick your child up early without letting the office and teachers know beforehand. Do also pay special attention to the Truancy Policy in the Parent Student Handbook, as it relates to attendance.
In regards to safety, parents, please do not park illegally in crosswalks or the red zone. Our School Resource Officer from Gardena PD may be coming around to issue tickets and citations. Thanks for your cooperation.
RE: after school activities, children must be supervised at all times. If they are not picked up right after dismissal (15 minutes after school ends), they will be sent to Daycare and parents will be charged the daycare fees. Teachers of enrichment classes and sports coaches must communicate with the daycare team. If parents haven’t picked them up after their event, they will be sent to daycare. Thanks for keeping our kids safe!
We will continue to collect gift cards in the office through 9/15 for the victims of the fires in Lahaina, Maui. Last week we raised $730 from our two popsicle sales, and $400 from our Spam Musubi sale! All these monies will go to buying gift cards for the people of Maui. You may also purchase Scrip for Maui in the office through Mr. Aguilar (this will go toward your fundraising requirement). Our students will be writing letters and creating love art for the victims from now to 9/15. This is the first of many fundraisers, so be on the lookout for other opportunities to support this special cause. 100% of the proceeds will be sent directly to families there. We appreciate your generosity and support!
Thank you and God bless,
Angela Grey, Principal
Gabriel Reyes, Co-Principal
