Dear SAP School Families,
Happy Catholic Schools’ Week! This past Saturday, the 5 bookmark winners of the Gardena Mayme Library Bookmark Contest were acknowledged at the library, and the winners received certificates and prizes. Congratulations to our winners! Our school had the most winners out of over 100 entries! I was so proud to see them at the celebration.
Thank you to our Campus Cleanup Volunteers this weekend, who helped Pablo get our classrooms ready for this week. We are grateful to all who came to our Open House yesterday after 11am Mass from 12-2. Those who wore their Formal Mass Uniforms should have received a special free dress pass from their teacher after Mass. Many thanks to our amazing students and Ms. Martha Zambrano, who led our SAP Folklorico dance team in their beautiful performance yesterday in the Hall. We want to thank Amy Lucas Palanca, and her team of volunteers including our student tour guides, and all our teachers and staff for all their hard work for Open House. All Folklorico dancers can also earn free dress passes, even if they came to Mass in their costumes. Students will have a gallery walk at 9am today to be able to see all the student work displayed yesterday. Many thanks to our Amazing SAP School Community: our students, parents, faculty, staff, and families! This next week we celebrate YOU: all our stakeholders…
Today is Student Appreciation Day! Students can wear Pajamas today and there will be NO homework! For Junior High students, they will wear a SAP sweatshirt or jacket over their pajamas for Mass. Tomorrow is Teacher Appreciation Day, Wednesday is Administration Appreciation Day (we also have our Student Teacher Volleyball game at 10:30am), Thursday is Parent Appreciation Day (we will be serving donuts and coffee at carline that morning unless it rains – and we have to do it on Wednesday – so parents please join us, more info to come). Friday is a noon dismissal and Special Persons’ Day, with our All School Mass at 10 am, and dismissal is at 12 noon. All adults (18 and over) coming to pick up children for Mass should sign out the student with their classroom teacher and sit with the child at Mass behind their homeroom teacher. Once signed out, the adult is responsible for the child, not the teacher. Please do not leave your child unattended. Your child’s Special person must bring lunch for themselves and the student if they plan to eat on campus after Mass. There will be NO FOOD sold that day at the school, as in years past. There is also the option to take the child to eat somewhere off campus after Mass. Do let your teachers know the plans. Those students who have not turned in the name of their Special Person to the school will stay with their homeroom teacher after Mass and must bring their own lunch. School ends at 12 noon, and daycare is offered for those staying late, until 6pm.
This is also the week that Mr. and Mrs. Reyes have been anticipating. Their baby’s due date is this Thursday, February 1. We pray for the Reyes family at this exciting and special time. Mr. Reyes will be out on paternity leave when his baby arrives, and then he will be on a WASC/WCEA Visiting Committee at another school in February.
Musical auditions began last week for Beauty and the Beast, Jr.! Mrs. Garcia will be sending updates on casting and rehearsals via email to all who participated.
Our paving project has been postponed from this week to a later date, until further notice. Please stay tuned for more information.
Many Blessings,
Angela Grey, Principal
Gabriel Reyes, Co-Principal

IMPORTANT EARLY KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION!
If you have a child that will be entering Kindergarten next year and is NOT at St. Anthony’s Day Nursery – please contact me right away to let me know so I can include him/her on the early registration list. If your child is already at the Nursery School, you have already received info and should have turned in all applications. First come first serve. Open enrollment to the public starts 3/1/24.
INTERIOR MAINTENANCE PLC and SERVICE HOUR BUYOUT
Please sign up for the Interior Maintenance PLC for service hours that can be earned on certain Saturdays from 12:30-3:30 p.m. You can also donate Scrip at the front office for school expenses. You may buy out your service hours for $15/hour for Scrip, such as Home Depot, Office Depot, Target, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and Starbucks. Next year, the price goes up to $17/hr to keep up with inflation and CA’s minimum wage.
MONTHLY EMERGENCY DRILLS
We recently had an emergency school safety drill; an intruder alert/lockdown drill. Our school has at least one safety drill per month. Please discuss procedures and your family’s plan with your children in the event of a fire, lockdown/intruder alert, or earthquake when they are at home.
VOLUNTEERS
All visitors on campus must check in and out of the office at all times and wear a VISITOR badge. All Volunteers must be Fingerprinted through the ADLA, cleared, and have a current Virtus Training Certificate. AM and PM carline and lunch yard duty volunteers (from 12-1 daily) are needed. Please email me at agrey@stanthonygardena.org if you are interested. For safety reasons, please call before you come to the office and buzz yourself in. Do not prop the door open for anyone, especially strangers. All parents are welcome to join the SAFETY PLC to increase security on our campus.
EARN ONE SERVICE HOUR FROM HOME!
Parents who review our school online on Yelp, Google, AND greatschools.org will earn up to one service hour after you send me your screenshots of all 3 sites as proof: to agrey@stanthonygardena.org.
