Dear First Grade Families,
I hope everything is well with you and your family. Here is all the information that you and your child will need for this week, 2/12-2/15.
Earthquake
Our first grade students handled the situation really well, everyone was safe. Nobody cried and panicked. They all followed instructions and exited the church with respect. It’s truly reassuring to see how well-prepared and composed our first graders were during the incident.
Missing Assignments
All missing or incomplete assignments are due before Feb 28th. All missing assignment list were sent out. If your child didn’t get any list, this means they don’t have any missing assignments.
Mardi Gras Monday
Monday, February 12, 2024 we will be having VALENTINE PINK or RED Top and Jeans Day. Everyone can wear a PINK or RED Top with uniform bottoms OR pay
$1.00 for wearing Jeans. (no holes in jeans see handbook for appropriate attire)
Money collected will be donated to The LA Children’s Hospital Cardiac Care Unit
Please send your child’s money in an envelope OR baggie with their name/grade
and place the money in their homework folder.
SNACK SHACK/CART will be open Monday, February 12 during lunch recess.
Valentine Snacks will be $1.00
Valentine Exchange
Students may bring Valentines goodie bags or gifts for their whole class on Monday not Wednesday.
Wednesday, Ash Wednesday
Our All School Mass will be on Ash Wednesday. Students must wear their complete formal mass uniform. We won’t have mass on Friday.
Raz-kids
Raz-kids (Kida A-Z) is a great tool to practice student’s reading comprehension and fluency. It helped and prepared my previous first grade students for 2nd grade Accelerated Reader (AR). A parent asked me why I don’t assign Raz-kids as homework anymore. In the past, first graders do 2 seesaw decodable & 2 Raz-kids weekly. It worked really well for our class.
To accommodate another parent’s request this year, to lessen the app use and homework, I will not assign Raz-kids. Students may still use it as an extra practice at home.
