Dear parents and guardians,
This week, students will start their first round of STAR testing. Also, remember to check Gradelink to stay updated on your child’s academic progress. Our annual back-to-school night will take place on Wednesday. Keep reading for more detailed information.
STAR testing
9/3 STAR reading
9/4 STAR math
Please remind your child to get a good night’s sleep and eat a well-balanced breakfast. I also encourage you to pray with your child before morning drop-off and give words of encouragement.
Back to School Night
BTSN will begin promptly at 6:30 pm in the hall to kick off with announcements and teacher introductions.
Just a reminder about the upcoming information session:
Teachers and families of JH students must stay in the hall for a 15-minute presentation. After that, there will be a second session.
If you have questions about your child’s teacher, please email them for the necessary information.
6th-grade room parents will have a sign-in sheet for you to provide your and your child’s names to avoid any fines. They will also have a question box at their table for any specific concerns or questions you may have.
Sickness
As we start the new school year and come together as a community, there is a risk of exposure to illness. If your child is showing symptoms of COVID-19 or common illnesses such as a cold, strep throat, or the flu, please keep them at home until it is confirmed that they are not posing a risk to other students or teachers. This year, there is limited teacher coverage, so please be mindful of the potential exposure to our teachers.
Sports/StuGo
Students must maintain a minimum C average grade to participate in sports teams or student government activities. After the sports team rosters are confirmed, teachers will identify students who are not eligible to participate in sports or student government activities.
Office hours – Ms. Hernandez
Students can come to my office hours this week as follows:
– Tuesday for makeup tests for absences
– Thursday for help with homework.
Annotations
Students are given an article at the beginning of the week and have until Friday to complete the annotations. During our class discussions, I guide students in identifying key details of the article. I provide daily support to help students improve their work and regularly check their progress.
All Saints Day
Students and teachers must dress up as a saint for All Saints’ Day on November 1st. Please start planning with the end in mind, and if you have any questions, please let me know.
