Dear Students, Parents/Guardians,
Thank you to all who helped with our Interior Maintenance cleaning this weekend. Special thanks to our PLC leads, Claudia Guzman and Veronica Ramos!
Last week we had our Anti-Bullying Assembly in different grade levels with Monica Harmon. Please talk with your children about what they learned and how we can keep our school a bully-free zone. We have zero tolerance for bullying, and we encourage our students and all SAP community members and stakeholders to practice the Tribes agreements and be followers of Jesus daily.
Last week we announced the Yearbook Cover Contest that runs from now till 10/11. Thank you, Ms. Patricia Alejandre for leading our Yearbook Committee this year!
Our Studio Lab was installed last week. We are excited to utilize this lab with our Student Government and Yearbook Club. Special thanks to Jeah Avila, Micah Grey, Ms. Genesis Garcia, and Ms. Pat Alejandre for leading this effort. We look forward to all the great things our students will create using this media lab. We are grateful to have used $100,000 in federal grants for this amazing project!
Our Fall chocolate fundraiser ends on 10/11. Keep selling those chocolates at $1 apiece! Last week we had our 2nd Trojan Drawing. Congratulations to all those who won prizes. If you opted out and paid the fee upfront, all you need to do is sell at least 1 box to qualify for the Trojan Drawings, and to allow your child(ren) to see the BMX Show on November 14, as an incentive of participation.
Snack Shack continues all week for the 8th grade ongoing fundraiser. It will happen every day M-F at recess from 10-10:15 this week and after school on Wednesdays. Please have your child bring money for this sale if they want to buy a snack at recess and at Wednesday dismissal near the 163rd St. main gate. Please help support our 8th grade as they save up for their upcoming trips. Thanks in advance for supporting our graduating class. We will have our annual poinsettia sale coming up in December, so please look out for more information and reserve your plants soon! Special thanks to Mrs. Rubalcava for running these events.
Girls’ Volleyball practices continue every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, except for this week when the A Team has a rescheduled game on Friday, 10/4. The game is at 6pm at St. John Chrysostom. There will be NO practice at school this Friday due the the away game for the A Team. Coach Anthony is traveling for work till 10/18. Thank you to Coach Adonis and Coach Grey for stepping in to help during practices and games! Please check the Band app for updates.
Our Library PLC has been working hard to keep our library in great working order. Thank you to Claudia Garcia for helping our teachers keep our library a beautiful place. Parents, library forms will go home this week to all students and must be signed and returned to show that you and your child understand the expectations of our school library and the responsibility that families should have for the books borrowed from there. Failure to turn these in could result in cancellation of library privileges.
Title I services have begun with our teacher from Catapult, Courtney Munder. If your child qualifies for these services (on-site tutoring in ELA and Math), you will need to sign a parent consent form if you wish for your child to participate. There is a Title I Parent Meeting on Zoom on 10/9. Please join in. A Zoom link will be sent to parents whose child qualifies for services.
We are happy to offer free counseling services once again at SAP through Counseling Partners of LA (CPLA). Noelle Liles and Stacy Park are our counselors. Your child may receive services one time if it’s an emergency without a consent form, but after that a signed parent consent form is needed. This form is good for the whole academic school year. Please return those signed consent forms if you would like your child to receive services.
For all those families who want their children to receive sacraments this year, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher by today 9/30, to be put on a list so we can serve you. The teacher will then let Ms. Garcia and Ms. Gomez know, and they will work closely with Mrs. Dyogi and Msgr. Sal to let you know next steps for your particular situation. A class for the parents/guardians may be necessary, and then up to 4 classes may be required for students in grades 3-8 who have received the sacrament of baptism, but would like to receive first Holy Communion and First Reconciliation this year.
Finally, Parent Conferences will take place next week. There will be 5 days of Noon Dismissal. All parents should have signed up for conferences with your child’s teacher(s). You will receive your child’s Progress report and Window 1 STAR scores at the parent conference. This will mark the halfway point of the first trimester. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
God bless,
Angela Grey, Principal

CA STATE TRUANCY POLICY
Parents, as a reminder, please do NOT pick your child up early without letting the office and teachers know beforehand. You may send an email in writing to let the teacher know so they can determine if an absence is excused or unexcused. After 14 excused or unexcused absences on an attendance record, this is considered to be excessive and a child is considered truant under CA state law. Please pay special attention to the Truancy Policy in the Parent Student Handbook, as it relates to attendance, and email the office with any questions. This info, along with the Code of Christian Conduct was sent home recently.
SACRAMENTS
All those who are not baptized and wish to receive the sacraments this year, please notify your child’s teacher by today, 9/30. Thank you!
HFO (Hands, Feet, and Objects) to Self
Safety is first and foremost. Please remind your child to keep their hands, feet, and all objects to themselves. They can stay in their bubbles and personal space so they stay safe and keep others safe as well. Please teach them at home about “air hugs” and “air high-fives” so they don’t actually make contact with others. We are seeing too many injuries and too many accidental touching among students that lead to more serious issues. That said, if a student receives multiple verbal warnings about this, it could result in a conduct slip or detention. In more serious issues or repeat offenses, a referral or suspension. Please remind your children about the importance of self-control.
UNIFORMS
Our teachers and administration continue to enforce the uniform policy. Boys and girls should have hair that is neatly groomed. No extravagant hairstyles or colors, natural colors only (no highlights for girls). Boys with longer hair must not have it in their face or covering their eyes or ears (see info in the Handbook about the Crown Act). Girls should not have nail polish, dangling earrings (only one stud earring per ear), or wear jewelry (only religious jewelry allowed). No excessive bracelets on arms, only one simple bracelet (like a rosary bracelet). No ankle socks allowed at all, or prints or fluorescent colors on shoes. 3 uniform infractions will result in a detention and that affects the Work Habits Grade and Citizenship. Please refer to the Parent Student Handbook for the proper uniform guidelines for the 2024-2025 school year. Students may use Free Dress passes if an infraction is given, and they will be excused. Administration reserves the right to make the final decision on uniforms.
