4th Grade Field Trip
We have been working on finalizing our field trip for October 25th at San Juan Capistrano. Each student has to pay $49 (including the bus and the entrance fee) which will be billed directly from the office. This trip is going to help students understand life in the missions and connect their learning. A permission slip will be sent home on Tuesday October 15- to return by Friday October 18.
Deadlines:
- Mission/Tribe/ Sutter Fort projects have been assigned and the report will be due November 4th.
- Nov 4th -1st trimester Mass reflection (5 reflections for the 1st trimester)
Mass Journal
Students must complete 5 Sunday Mass Reflections (provided in this email) for the first trimester. Mass Reflections will only be counted if you have completed the reflection from a Catholic Mass you have attended. Non-Catholic services and Reconciliation Prayer are not a Mass.
Non-Catholics are still required to complete the Gospel Reflection. They can use the attached website : https://bible.usccb.org/daily-bible-reading.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE
This week, it was great meeting with you to discuss about the success of your student and how we can work as a team to provide the best help possible. The main goal is always to move forward and to help us work as a team and ALWAYS to focus on strength to help in your child development academically and socio-emotionally.
I will attach the. syllabus to this email as it is important to send information that were written but that you might have missed.
Please arrange with me to make up for missed classwork or tests. All work or tests missed must be made up within the week of return.
Please also note that in the school we do not allow ” test correction” as a grade but I strongly encourage the students to redo their tests to make sure they are understanding the mistakes they made. This is strongly encouraged in math as we are always building from the previous lesson.
From my syllabus
Make-up classroom work and missed homework due to an excused absence are due within the same number of days absent. For example, if an excused absence is for three days, the student has three days to complete and submit the work. If work is not submitted in a timely manner, an effort slip will be issued.
Missed tests must be made up within the week of return. Please arrange a time with the teacher after school before 4:00 pm.
For planned absences, parents should contact the teacher to make arrangements regarding classwork, homework, tests, and projects that will be missed. The student will only receive partial credit for planned absences during school time.
Please check Gradelink if your child is missing any homework and reach out to me directly if you have any concerns or questions.
From my a previous newsletter (Week of 9/9-9/13) that you can find online by clicking on this Link.
Students are responsible for their homework and to bring them and put them in the homework bin on Friday. When homework is not received on Fridays, I will remove a point per day late and will need the homework no later than Monday. Please note that this week I did put “IC” for any homework not received.
Any homework that was not received in the past will be not be accepted, for homework from last week, I will accept them until Tuesday. Please make sure that you child not only brings it but also give it to me. I am taking time to help them put homework in the bins on Fridays but when it is late work they are responsible to make sure that I receive it.
Classwork
- Social Studies : On Friday, students were assigned Native American Project , Californian Mission or Sutter Fort’s project. Please read the instructions with your students. We will start those projects next week as the report is due Nov 4th.
- Math : Please remember that this chapter in math is about the multiplication strategies therefore the students are expected to know them by names and to be able to use all of them. We have a test coming up on Thursday as we only have one lesson left. I will suggest that if you are helping your child, let them explain how they are understanding rather than trying to show them the way you know how to do. The main goal is to develop the algebraic thinking which in later years of their algebra journey is essential. I know it is sometimes hard as an adult to learn new ways, as myself I had to learn those ways few years ago and to embrace them, but please bear with us.
Focus of the Week
- Math: Multiplication Properties as Strategies, Multiplications Facts 5 and 10 ; 2 and 4.
- Word Study: vowel sounds /u/ /yoo/ and /oo/

All Saint Day
Please remember that in order for your child to be able to wear a Halloween costume, they have to wear a saint costume on All Saint’s Day (November 1st). Even though this year we are researching on North and South American Saints, your child may dress up as any saint of their liking.
Halloween costumes
To ensure that all costumes follow our School’s Halloween costume guidelines, I would like to ask everyone what costume their child is planning to wear on October 31. Please be sure costumes meet all these guidelines. They must be appropriate and pre-approved, or a student may be sent home to change. Please let me know what your child is wearing by clicking this link:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UHavbIKCj2pNVAUAGJcKR8fz4RwCtpHiB0s_lAtjjRg/edit
- Costumes should be child-friendly. No inflatables, no gory or scary clowns, no devils, or scary costumes
- Costumes Should Not:
- Be obstructive, offensive, inappropriate for a Catholic school (skimpy or revealing), gory, evil, or violent
- Drag on the ground
- Contain sharp objects, pointed objects, or materials that may accidentally strike another person.
- Contain any weapons that resemble or could be mistaken for an actual weapon.
- Encourage cross-dressing. Boys dress up like boys, and girls dress up like girls
Truancy Policy
Please note that on the syllabus, it stated that every 3 Tardies, students will receive an effort slip. Effort slip will be received this week based on the number of tardies.
A student is considered truant when he or she is absent from school without a valid excuse for three full days in one school year or is tardy or absent for more than any 30-minute period during the school day on three occasions in one school year, or any combination thereof. The school shall report the student to the local public school district’s attendance office or the public-school district’s superintendent.
In the event that a school suspects that a student is truant (absent from school without a valid excuse), the school administration should first contact the parents/guardians. If the school suspects that the student is a habitual truant (absent three times in a school year without a valid excuse) and all resources at the school level have been exhausted, the school principal should notify the local Child Welfare and Attendance authorities.
If a student has been reported once as a truant and then is absent again for one or more days without a valid excuse or tardy on one or more days without a valid excuse, the school should again report the student as truant to the local public school district’s attendance office or the public school district’s superintendent. A student who has been reported as truant three or more times is considered a habitual truant and is subject to dismissal.
If a student has been absent without excuse, and it is impossible to contact the parents/guardians or designated emergency contacts within 4 hours and after repeated attempts, the school should notify the attendance office of the local public school district, the local police department, Child Protective Services, or all of those agencies.
