Dear Fifth Grade Families,
I hope everyone is well. Here’s a look at what’s coming up this week, 10/21-10/25. Please make sure to read all important information to avoid questions that are clearly stated on all emails. I would greatly appreciate it! If you missed my email last week, you can check out my school blog; http://www.stanthonygardena.org/fifth-grade/
Yesterday (Oct 18, 2024), I sent an email to families with important information regarding our upcoming fundraiser and holiday parties. If you haven’t had a chance to read the email yet, you can view it here.
Please take a moment to answer the survey included in the email so we can gather your preferences regarding fundraising or direct contributions for the holiday events. Your feedback is essential in helping us plan accordingly.
Thank you for your time and continued support!
Deadlines:

Red Ribbon Week – Drug Abuse Prevention
Activities will take place throughout this week in classrooms and through our Student Government to bring awareness to the important issue and to keep our kids safe. Students and teachers may come to school in red tops on 10/23. If you want to wear jeans, Student Government has a fundraiser for $1 to wear jeans to school. Otherwise, students will wear their uniform bottoms on Wednesday, 10/23.
Fifth Grade Trunk or Treat
Our 5th-grade class is excited to participate in the Trunk or Treat, and we need your help! Our room parents are working hard to create a fantastic trunk for the fifth-grade students, but they can’t do it alone.
If you’d like to volunteer your time, talents, or resources, please reach out to our room parents through Band. Every bit of help is greatly appreciated and will make this event even more special for the kids.

Halloween Costumes:
To ensure that all costumes follow our school’s Halloween guidelines, I ask that you let me know what costume your child plans to wear on October 31. Costumes must be appropriate and pre-approved, or a student may be sent home to change. Please share your child’s costume using the link below:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BMce87sBAgq1KRUJA6H-uLzJLLTEcL7__exXLviPDOk/edit?usp=sharing
- Costumes should be child-friendly. No inflatables, gory or scary clowns, devils, or scary costumes.
- Costumes should not:
- Be obstructive, offensive, or inappropriate for a Catholic school (no skimpy or revealing outfits, gory, evil, or violent themes).
- Drag on the ground.
- Contain sharp or pointed objects that could accidentally strike another person.
- Include weapons that resemble or could be mistaken for an actual weapon.
- Encourage cross-dressing. Boys dress like boys, and girls dress like girls.
Truancy Policy:
A student is considered truant if absent without a valid excuse for three full days in a school year or is tardy or absent for more than any 30-minute period during the school day on three occasions in a school year, or any combination thereof. The school will report truant students to the local public school district’s attendance office or the superintendent.
In cases where a student is suspected of being habitually truant, the school administration will first contact the parents/guardians. If the student continues to be absent without a valid excuse, the school may notify the local Child Welfare and Attendance authorities.
Important Reminders
- Restroom Policy: As a reminder, students may use the restroom during transitions and breaks. Please encourage your child to use these opportunities as repeated requests during class discussions will result in a clip down.
- Uniforms: Boys are required to wear belts. Please check that your child is in full uniform each morning. Uniform infractions will be issued if students are not compliant.
- Make-Up Tests: Parents, if your child misses a test, please email me to schedule a make-up session for Make-Up Monday. Without an appointment, your child will receive an NI (Needs Improvement) on the missed test. Remember, big tests are given every Thursday and Friday.
- Drinks: Please avoid sending soda, sugary drinks, Starbucks, and boba to school. We encourage students to make healthy choices.
