Dear Fourth Grade Families,
I hope everyone is doing well! Here’s a look at what’s coming up for the week of October 28-November 1. Please make sure to read all the important information below to avoid any questions that may already be addressed. If you missed last week’s email, you can find updates on my school blog: http://www.stanthonygardena.org/fourth-grade/
San Juan Capistrano 10/25
I would like to thank all the parents specially those who came and were able to volunteer. We had a great time learning about Acagchemem people ( before establishment of the mission) and mission life. Students really liked the chapel that looked beautiful! This was a great connection to the learning given the fact that last week we worked on our California project.
Deadlines:
- November 4: 1st Trimester Mass Reflection (5 reflections required)
- November 4: California project Report
- November 8: 34% ST math and 100% AR
Project Notes:
I did share with the students that I am really proud of them for working on two projects (Saint and California) in class. We worked on how to take information for a limited number of sources rather than “googling every question.” The purpose and the process of researching is as important as the written report (informative writing) in my classroom; so please trust the process to help us build self-confidence in the student.
ST math/ AR
- Please note that AR test should NEVER be taken at home. There are clear procedure to take the tests. However, students are encouraged to read at home so that they can take test in class. This week I will send individual emails to parents about their students for those falling behind or in need of change of range. When students take the test, it is important that their score as close as possible to 100% as it gives an information about their reading comprehension.
- This week, most students should be around 30% as the goal was to have 5% percent increase weekly. However, I will send individual email to help student reaching their goals sometimes this week. Please note that I am making sure to have at least 100min of ST math/ AR weekly constantly readjusting to make it happen. ST math is not to be done at home unless I assigned it; doing it at home without my permission does have an impact on your student’s grade.
Math
Last week, on Monday, I gave the “multiplication as strategy” test back to the students but I told them that I will make sure to enter the grade right before giving it back to them. The test will be sent home tomorrow and I want each and every student to do a test correction. As we are learning about division, as I previously mentioned it is important that students uses the strategies asked. Those chapters are for the understanding of the concepts NOT to prove that we know the answer.
Tests
In general I will NEVER have a test without a review: vocabulary review/ study guide… This week we had to make some changes as some events happen and we had to spend more time on some of the material. This happens and I am good at communicating with the students.
Halloween Costumes:
To ensure that all costumes follow our school’s Halloween guidelines, I ask that you let me know what costume your child plans to wear on October 31. Costumes must be appropriate and pre-approved, or a student may be sent home to change. Please share your child’s costume using the link below:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UHavbIKCj2pNVAUAGJcKR8fz4RwCtpHiB0s_lAtjjRg/edit?tab=t.0
Costumes should be child-friendly. No inflatables, gory or scary clowns, devils, or scary costumes. Costumes should not:
- Be obstructive, offensive, or inappropriate for a Catholic school (no skimpy or revealing outfits, gory, evil, or violent themes).
- Drag on the ground.
- Contain sharp or pointed objects that could accidentally strike another person.
- Include weapons that resemble or could be mistaken for an actual weapon.
- Encourage cross-dressing. Boys dress like boys, and girls dress like girls.
Students must bring their own Halloween buckets/bag for trunk or treat. All students and adults volunteering may dress in their favorite appropriate Halloween costume and must follow these guidelines. The events are for students only. Adults working at or volunteering on campus for Trunk or Treat may earn hours for decorating their trunks and helping to pass out candy. More information for volunteers will be given to parents by our Room Parent PLC lead and Trunk or Treat Lead.
