Dear Fourth Grade Families,
I hope everyone is doing well! Here’s a look at what’s coming up for the week of November 4-November 8. Please make sure to read all the important information below to avoid any questions that may already be addressed. If you missed last week’s email, you can find updates on my school blog: http://www.stanthonygardena.org/fourth-grade/
Deadlines:
- November 4: 1st Trimester Mass Reflection (5 reflections required)
- November 4: California project Report ONLY
- November 8: 34% ST math and 100% AR
Project Notes:
Tomorrow the only expectation is to have the report typed. I have assisted students creating the google doc and I showed them how they can attached it to the assignment. The expectation is that all google docs will be filled with the researches they did on paper. It is essential that I have it today first thing in the morning as the student will work on it during ELA. This week, with this report, we will:
– Create an introduction and conclusion
– Edit/ Revise
– Add transition words into each paragraph
– Add details
Please note that the absence of work will delay the process and the final grade for this report will be on Gradelink Friday 11/8.
– Project Board: Students were given instructions on where to put information on their board. This is due November 18.
– Project: Students may choose the way they want to represent their projects (artifact, slide, timeline, interview…) but they HAVE TO tell me as I am trying to make sure that we have various representation. Thank you for those who already told me.
ST math/ AR
- Please note that AR test should NEVER be taken at home. There are clear procedure to take the tests. However, students are encouraged to read at home so that they can take test in class. This week I will send individual emails to parents about their students for those falling behind or in need of change of range. When students take the test, it is important that their score as close as possible to 100% as it gives an information about their reading comprehension.
- ST math grade will follow this :
- A: 100% completion – (34% ST math)
- B: 80%-99% completion (27%-33% ST math)
- C: 60- 79% completion (20%-26% ST Math )
- D: 50%-60% completion (17%- 19% ST Math )
- F: Below 50% completion (16% or less ST Math)
Math
This week we will have a test for “Understand Division.” Tomorrow, there will be a reteach on “division using partial quotient” and the test is expected to be on Wednesday 11/06 after completed the review.
I am encouraging all parents to take 5 min daily to have students review their multiplication facts. Often times, the problem is not the division but the fact that students are not familiar with their multiplications facts. Have them timed themselves. In class, I am doing about 5 sec for each fact out loud; for instance , “what is 5×9” and they have only 5 sec to answer/write “45”. It helps seeing if they are fluent.

If your child didn’t give me his/her homework this Friday, please have them personally hand it to me this Monday 11/4.
