Dear Fourth Grade Families,
I hope this message finds you well. I hope that you are getting ready for this festive season; I am really excited this year to spend time with my whole family as we haven’t been able to see each other for the past three years. I made it safely home and trying to work with the time difference. I am apologizing in advance for emails that will be sent too late.
I want to take a moment to congratulate my students, the fourth graders for their performance during the show and also for working really hard. I am really happy to see them grow and proud of them. My wish for our class is to continue the great work and enjoying while doing it.
If you missed last week’s email, you can find updates on my school blog: http://www.stanthonygardena.org/fourth-grade/
Deadlines:
- January 10: Christmas Fraction Project
Each student has received either version 2 or version 3 of the fraction project. I handed them last week but also put them in their mailbox in the classroom to be picked up yesterday, December 16. Please email me if you are not sure which one your child is doing and/or if you have lost it, please email me ASAP.
Rationale: In January, in math we will be starting fractions and I want to make sure that students are prepared. Please have your child turn in the project on time.
I am attaching only the introduction of the project because it will look slightly different from version 2 to version 3; however, I have both versions on my computer and will be able to share with you if you are asking me about the one that your child is supposed to have.
- February 24: 2nd Trimester Mass Reflection (7 reflections required)
Tuesday, Dec17th- NO Daycare
All students must be picked up at 12 noon so our staff can go to our Christmas luncheon off campus.
Novel Study
We finished The Wild Robot last week and it was great watching the movie together. We were able to see how similar or different it was from the book. I have shared with the students that I prefer books because it uses my imagination and it feels like I am part of the story as I am connecting with the characters.
By January 6th, please make sure that all students have a copy of Tiger Rising. We will spend less time on this novel study as we now know how to study books. For this process, I want students to read in class / or only when the book is assigned. This helps us live the story together. My expectation is to have finished with this book by the end of February.
