Dear Fourth Grade Families,
I hope this email finds you well and that you are enjoying this holiday with your family.
Here’s a look at what’s coming up for the week of Jan. 21 -Jan. 24. Please make sure to read all the important information below to avoid any questions that may already be addressed. If you missed any email, you can find updates on my school blog: http://www.stanthonygardena.org/fourth-grade/.
Deadlines:
- February 24: 2nd Trimester Mass Reflection (7 reflections required)
STAR Testing
We will be STAR testing on Wednesday through Thursday this week. Students must bring their iPads fully charged. Please ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep and has breakfast before school.
Wednesday, Jan. 22nd
Dodger Dress Up Day for $2. Students can bring in $2 and wear their Dodger tops and jeans or free dress bottoms.
Friday, Jan. 24th
Progress report for the second trimester will be sent home on Friday, Jan24th. Please keep in mind that the progress report is just a snapshot of where your child is at right now. I will be sending 2 copies home, one copy must be signed and returned and one is yours to keep. All grades are updated daily, any missing homework or assignments will reflect on your child’s grades. If you have any concerns or questions, feel free to reach out to me directly—I’m here to help. There is still plenty of time for grades to improve before final grades are issued at the end of the 2nd trimester.
Annual Open HouseOn Sunday, January 26 will be our Annual Open House from 12-2pm, after our 11am All School Family Mass. Students can earn free dress passes from their teachers if they come to Mass in Full Mass uniform that day and check in with their teacher.
Work
- Please try as much as you can to provide missing work within a week. In my policy I am not accepting work more than a week after the due date if the student was in class. Please refer to the “Absences” policy if your student was absent.
- On Gradelink whenever you see “IC” please read the comments associated so that you could help your student.
- Please give your student access to their Gradelink to monitor their grades.
- We also have some issues with students not knowing their emails password. Please provide the necessary information to help me better assist them in class. Thank you.
Behavior ChartPlease parents remember that behavior charts are sent out daily. I usually send them out on Friday and keep them on Monday. I will upload this Monday, a grade for behavior and work habit based on all the behavior charts that you have signed. This week I will upload a grade for both Behavior and Work Habit. Once it is done, if you have any question please feel free to contact me.
Truancy PolicyI am attaching the truancy policy as some students were absents. Please remember to email the school when your child is not attending.
Please note that on the syllabus, it stated that every 3 Tardies, students will receive an effort slip. Effort slip will be received this week based on the number of tardies.
A student is considered truant when he or she is absent from school without a valid excuse for three full days in one school year or is tardy or absent for more than any 30-minute period during the school day on three occasions in one school year, or any combination thereof. The school shall report the student to the local public school district’s attendance office or the public-school district’s superintendent.
In the event that a school suspects that a student is truant (absent from school without a valid excuse), the school administration should first contact the parents/guardians. If the school suspects that the student is a habitual truant (absent three times in a school year without a valid excuse) and all resources at the school level have been exhausted, the school principal should notify the local Child Welfare and Attendance authorities.
If a student has been reported once as a truant and then is absent again for one or more days without a valid excuse or tardy on one or more days without a valid excuse, the school should again report the student as truant to the local public school district’s attendance office or the public school district’s superintendent. A student who has been reported as truant three or more times is considered a habitual truant and is subject to dismissal.
If a student has been absent without excuse, and it is impossible to contact the parents/guardians or designated emergency contacts within 4 hours and after repeated attempts, the school should notify the attendance office of the local public school district, the local police department, Child Protective Services, or all of those agencies.
Missed work Procedures and Make-up work Policy Please arrange with me to make up for missed classwork or tests. All work or tests missed must be made up within the week of return.
Make-up classroom work and missed homework due to an excused absence are due within the same number of days absent. For example, if an excused absence is for three days, the student has three days to complete and submit the work. If work is not submitted in a timely manner, an effort slip will be issued.
