Welcome to the Music Department Home Page!
Mrs. Garcia comes from a tight-knit family in the Sacramento area. Being born deaf in one ear, it made it hard to interact with people and it made her shy, quiet and independent. Her choir teacher in high school changed her life by telling her that she could sing, even though she believed she was tone deaf. From that moment, her love for theatre and music grew, as did her self-confidence, and she ended up majoring in Theatre Arts at California Polytechnic: San Luis Obispo.
While directing her senior project, Songs for a New World, Mrs. Garcia dreamed of combining theatre with her Catholic faith. After graduation she joined PLACE Corps (Partners of Los Angeles Catholic Education) to do just that! She taught Choir, English, and Theatre for two years at a Catholic high school, while completing her masters in Education and receiving her teaching credential in Secondary English.
In 2012, Mrs. Garcia was married to her husband in a gorgeous Cathedral wedding in Sacramento. In their spare time, they enjoy traveling to historic places, visiting Disneyland, and spending time with family and friends.
This is her twelfth year at St. Anthony of Padua and is proud to have directed: Annie Jr., Getting to Know The Sound of Music, The Lion King Jr., Singin’ in the Rain Jr., Aladdin Jr., Frozen Jr., Newsies Jr., and Beauty and the Beast Jr. during her years here. She has had an amazing time at St. Anthony of Padua and is looking forward to introducing students to more musical classics. Mrs. Garcia feels excited and truly blessed to have the opportunity to teach students about the beautiful power of music and theatre!
“Nothing is more practical than finding God, that is, than falling in love in a quite absolute, final way. What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination, will affect everything. It will decide what will get you out of bed in the morning, what you will do with your evenings, how you will spend your weekends, what you read, who you know, what breaks your heart, and what amazes you with joy and gratitude. Fall in love, stay in love and it will decide everything.” — Rev. Pedro Arrupe, SJ
