Dear Fourth Grade Guardians, I pray this email finds you well. Here’s a look at what's coming up for the week of Mar.24- Mar.28. Please make sure to read all the important information below to avoid any questions that may already be addressed. If you missed any email, you can find updates on my school blog:https://nnolva.sites.ecatholic.com/fourth-grade Deadlines:
March 28: Class Donations deadline for Pauly’s Project
May 27: 3rd Trimester Mass Reflection (10 reflections required)
3rd Trimester Chapter book This trimester, instead of a chapter, I am thinking about introducing Book club. Students have chosen their books and you will receive a separate email for the book that your child will be assigned to read. All of the books are from Kate DiCamillo. The book will be due Monday March 30th.
Tuesday, March 25th- All School Mass Thank you Bianca Tellechea and Monique Ayuk-Etek for leading us throughout our 34 days of Marian Consecration. Thank you to all students with whom we had great conversations about how to use Mary as an example in our faith. This Tuesday, our consecration ends with the Feast of the Annunciation. All students must wear Formal Mass Uniform There will be NO All-School Mass on Friday 3/28. Students must come to school in regular uniforms this Friday
Wednesday, March 26th- Dodger Day March 26 is the day before the Dodgers’ Opening Day. The 8th grade will have a fundraiser on Wed, 3/26. Please support them by wearing Dodger Blue on Wednesday, for $2.
Thursday, March 27th – Spring Picture Day Spring Picture Day with Keys Photography. Those who wish to purchase photos may wear Easter attire/Sunday Best to school. ST Math/AR goal
Please note that I am telling students each week what is the weekly and the daily goal for ST math. On 5 days week, it is generally 90 minutes. Daily, students have at least 20 minutes to work on their ST math in class unless otherwise specified.
AR goal is 100% for the end of the trimester and at least 50% by April 15th. Please also note that the accuracy should be 85% or above, which ensure that the students have understood their readings.
Both AR and ST math are part of the requirements for citizenship.
Essays I am really proud of the students for working on their personal narrative essay. Most of the student focused on a really small moment of their lives and added some details to make their paragraphs. It took us months and I really enjoy reading the result. I am not done reading all of the 25 essays but it will be graded by the end of this week. I have told the students that I would like them to print their essays :
The informative Essay ( Tribe/Mission essay) can be printed as it has been reviewed.
The Saint argumentative paragraph, can be printed as it has been reviewed.
The personal Narrative Essay , will be able to be printed by the end of the week after review.
We are now working on our last essay, our Argumentative essay. This week, student have chosen their subjects and their sides. We learned about the structure OREO : Opinion Reason Example Opinion(attached) of the paragraph and are really excited to start this new essay. We have used a similar structure for all the other essay, so my expectation is that we are going a little bit faster on this.
Homework Please note that homework is adjusted to classwork. Therefore, last week I decided not to have reading log but encouraged students to read daily and maybe summarize out loud with parents to show understanding. At this point in the class, comprehension in all subjects has been a little bit hard so I truly encourage you to have your students showing deeply understanding of all questions that you may ask them.
